Will just get him extra scrutiny in the security lanes from the TSA, but when an XS rider flies, it's usually not on a plane.

What I've been told about the girl that hit Brant...
She's in her 20's. History of drinking and DUI.
After she turned in front of Brant and hit him, she drove to a nearby bodyshop where she ditched the truck. Since, she's been hopping from friend's house to friend's house, ducking and evading. Grand Junction detectives know who she is, and Anita told me they have some very good men on the case.
The girl's family has shut her out, and turned their back on her.
It's just a matter of time before they catch her.'82 XJ1100J Maxim (has been sold.)

I gotta agree with you Scott. Our hearts all go out to Brant and his family for what they are going through, and great news that it sounds like the surgery went well, what a blessing! We keep praying that the recovery goes as well.
But I can't help but think about what this woman and her family must be going through now, too. Certainly none of them wished this upon themselves. I know there has been some negative thoughts/feelings felt and expressed towards her, without full details, it sounds like she made a string of bad choices that day and Brant and family (and Dean) end up paying for them, but we have no idea what her life has been like. No disrespect intended nor desire to play down the seriousness of this, but who among us hasn't made a pile of bad choices in our lives that turned out with no consequences anywhere near as serious as this...or maybe no consequences at all! So I would hope we could have a small measure of compassion for this other family, too, and maybe a prayer that this woman gets the help she apparently needs to become whole again. And remember, forgiving is something we do for ourselves not those who've hurt us. It can be done without ever hearing the I'm Sorry" we desperately want to sometimes, but it sets us free just the same. Again, my intention isn't to upset anyone, just something to think about in the days ahead.
God Speed on your continuing recovery Brant, you have people literally all over the world that are pulling for you.Billy

I am happy that Brant is recovering and hope his progress continues as he is an innocent victim.
I feel no pity for her drinking is not accidental. I have seen many allow alcohol and or other drugs destroy them. With alcohol it really is easy for many to get hooked and could be much better controlled if we as society really wanted. I proposed a plan and sent it to a congressman to help with alcohol tobacco and firearms but even though it would have been economically added to current DMV system with little cost it was totally refused. I think they saw where it would stop even abusive judges, congressmen, and police from there beloved drinking and we can't have that now can we.
I believe in freedom but children and some people's access to certain things need to be strictly controlled for their and our protection. The way to do it should not impact those who can control themselves and respect others.
Get well soon Brant. To fix the problem one should not make more assumptions than the minimum needed.

Good morning Brant, Anita & Chad!
Today is a big day if they are giving him a sedation holiday. Its kind of like a regular holiday only less enjoyable!
Thanks for sharing the xrays. Its good to see the fine work being done.
In some ways Brant's toughest challenge lies ahead of him. Dealing with his current limitations and a painful rehab is going to be a mental challenge once he is fully awake. Remind him we stand by, ready to assist.

Ditto. Life is nothing but choices and I see no need to spin criminals into victims.

Choices
I appreciate all the insight, and unfortunately for my dad, the woman hit him by accident. However it was her choice to leave him at the scene bleeding as she looked out her door and left that made her such a horrible person regardless. Call me partial, but if you have ever seen my dad catch someone not paying attention while driving, it's quite the sight. I can't forsee her ever becoming a victim by any means in this and it's unfortunate we and my dad especially were at her mercy that afternoon.
What I can tell you, as we have many friends from growing up here who some of which work in the ER and other sections of the hospital, have told us some interesting things. One of which is that they were all given the name of the woman in the case that she calls the hospital to see how my dad is doing. Our frI ends in the ER tell us even in dome hit and run cases the felon will call in out of guilt to check on the victim they hit to see how they are doing. I can assure you she has not done this as of yet or we would know. Trust me. With that being the case I think she is simply not a very good human being and little compassion if any. Which is exactly what I will show when they find her as will my siblings and Anita.
I don't want to speak for Anita, but I can tell you it's a good thing right now that she has someone to be so angry with. I respect Anita and how she has dealt with all this. No one could have a better advocate for them than my dad has with Anita by his side. She questions everything and holds the dr.s to the line. She has been a great person and I couldn't think of anyone else more fit for my dad.
As for my mom Rindy, she has been a rock for us kids and especially to my pregnant sister while her husband was out of town, and to my brother who has no one else to support him per se. We have all pulled togeather and it's because of people like the xs11 family that are pulling so hard for my dad and offering so much support that we are so great full for as the real battle now begins. At the end of the day, Anita I'd the one who must care for my dad on a day to day basis, and take help where she needs and wants it. She will pipe up and let us know. Trust me. No telling what dad will need from here on out. I'm sure he will need a ramp at the front door and Anita may need to find another vehicle to transport him, who knows at this point. All I know is dad was more fragile physically than what his attitude was selling. That old stubbornness will be his strength in pulling back. But the damage mentally from his last motorcycle wreck was telling and lasted through my wedding. I'm guessing because this wreck was so much worse, that we may very well be dealing with dad's mental capacity being greatly affected this round.
Wow god damn this is becoming a book, so sorry everyone.
one last thing.... they are in fact bringing him back from his mental vacation today a little bit and I'll be sure to keep you all posted.
Thank you all for your prayers and thoughts, and keep them coming as Dad's battle is far from over. God's speed and good day. Ride safe.81 H Venture

Thankyou Chad for all your insights...Your Dad must be real proud of you...I know I would be if you were my son. Yes the toughest part is yet to come and Brant's future is uncertain in regards to wether he becomes fully ambulatory again...never mind if he'll ever ride a motorcycle again...so my thoughts and prayers for you all continues...I have been passing all the updates over to ST-Owners.com as well so when you have more specifically about Brant's condition then i will relay it as well...1980 XS650G Special-Two
