      New Front Tar...

I have had it with this Shinko 712 its been on there 1 year and has 5400 miles on it...tread is still good but you can feel it is cupped...plus I have never been happy with the vibes i suspect are coming from an imperfect tire..cheap is cheap...so just ordered a Perelli MT66 ...Tubeless ofc...I remember the fiasco Kurt went thru with ordering the tube type by mistake...hope it will be on the bike before the XSSE rally...Chapparral Motosports is where its coming from...about twice the price of the Shinko...

Finally found a good solid exhaust for my '81 Special. Pulled the carbs and went through them, installed new float needles and seats. Bought a new battery. Instaled everything and fired it up.. and it is only running on cyls 1 & 2. *Sigh... Carbs back out again tomorrow.

Petcocks are weird.. On one side, "On" has fuel coming from front nipple, other side comes from back like it's supposed to. I connected the carbs with a "T" so either side can feed both carbs. 3 and 4 don't want to eat at the moment.

                Yesterday's ride with my son.

Well we road 4 miles and I went to pull out and I gave her Holly Hell
shifted to second gear and twisted the drive shaft off. We went and got
the truck and trailer. In 30 minutes I had it laying on the floor I got another
                one on the way.

Yeah, I need a few more, eh? lol. On a side note, finally got the Special running today after a couple years of just sitting. Nothing sounds as good on these as stock exhaust in my opinion... sucks they're getting so hard to find. Its still got a tiny bit of popping on one of the right cylinders, but I Seafoamed it, took it for a ride to get it all into everything and will let it work it's magic.

I need to clean it up, stick the side covers back on, get some new grips on the bars, and this winter, finally get the tank in to get the dent pulled out and painted. Maybe I can keep from cartwheeling it down the road again..

She's a beauty in ruby! Count me in on the OEM exhaust fanboy club. I definitely think the post '79's look much more manly than the '79's. That rear grab bar makes the difference.

                          Hi Ian,
C$255 with the taxes. Needs must when the devil drives ...or Phil wants to ride to the Iron Horse. It looks really sexy with little dragons on it
Hope it lasts and grips well in the wet. My main concerns.

Last Thursday I put a Windscreen on the SF:

This was a direct result of my experience in the rain at XSSE. My helmet face shield fogged so badly it was dangerous and I couldn't let that happen again.

I wanted a cloverleaf shaped design for style and for shielding my hands. I found nice products from National Cycle and Slipstreamer that met my expectations. I noticed Marty's National Cycle "Plexifairing3" at XSSE. I ended up choosing the National Cycle "Plexistar2" because it was removable and I liked the appearance and functionality.

                            Installation was smooth.

I ordered this windscreen in early November as a birthday present...little did I know I would have the Bagger project a couple of weeks later....diminishing the need for the Windscreen!
                            -Mike
