Yesterday evening and this morning I pulled the carbs, re jetted for a RETURN to the drilled air box, reinstalled all, synced, color tuned and installed the auto adjusting cam chain tensioner including the damper tip that Ivan supplied to me.. Thanks Ivan. Engine runs GREAT with the return to the air box.

79XS, assume your talking bout the adjuster mentioning a dampener tip. Curious what's being used.81H Venturer1100 "The Bentley" (on steroids) 97 Yamaha YZ250(age reducer) 92 Honda ST1100 "Twisty"(touring rocket) Age is relative to the number of seconds counted 'airing' out an 85ft. table-top.

I tore the front end apart and alligned the forks. There's always been a slight twist to the 'tree, and now it tracks straight! Changed the fork oil for the first time since I bought the bike too.1980 XS850SG - Sold

I cleaned out the garage to get to the bike. Pulled out the battery and charged it. After checking the fluids and airing the tires, she fired on the 2nd try after sitting for over a year. I actually can't remember the last time I rode. After she kicked off, I took off screaming down the block. I forgot about the new clutch I put in about 200 miles ago. The front wheel came up in 2nd gear going up a slight hill. The bad thing was that I also forgot that I am lacking a spedo cable. I should have here back together and legal by mid next week. What a ride!United States Merchant Marine Academy, Kings Point, NY

Straightened, painted, and installed my YOSHIMURA RACING PIPE. Pics to follow in a thread of its own. This pipe beats the old Mac 4-1 all to pieces, and really sets up a howl when riding downtown. Rode today with an R6 at 100-120 for a couple hours. This thing really breathes through this pipe!Healthy is merely the slowest rate at which you can die

I put my new oval pod filters on from Mikesxs. Wow, Those old pods were messing things up. I can rip through the gears without a hint of a sputter. We went on a mountain ride with lots of twisty turns that ends up on a straight through some farm fields. The old 78 shot right up to 135 and if I had bigger balls I think there was a little more to go!
I also picked up a reed type engine breather valve, I have not put it on yet. Has anyone used one? It was made for the 650 special. Hope it works on the 1100.79 XS11 Special (Lazarus)

The G is much improved after today!!
Today, with the very much appreciated help from BikerPhil, we installed new fork seals and progressive springs on my forks.
We also installed the self adjusting cam chain tensioner and new brake pads.
In addition to the work on the forks, we dropped the front end by 1/2" or so. What a difference!!! We went for a short ride after that and the handling improved dramatically. It's a much better bike now.
The cam chain is a lot quiter now as well.
THANKS A MILLION, PHIL!!!!Last edited by Cobia; 06-30-2010, 02:51 PM.1980G Standard, Restored
