    • Fixed her internal Cancer

Well I was just going to do a simply fusebox replacement this weekend, but then realized that the backing was beginning to rust and my battery box it attaches to was completely rusted. I forgot to take before's of the rust but here is the pictures I have from the project.

And here is the after of the rusty battery box:

My next project is to soda blast the engine and paint it glossy black. My question is do i nee to use engine primer before i use the VHT black gloss? the VHT doesnt call for it, but would it help a good bit? I plan to soak it down in acetone to prep it before I paint it. Hopefully that will be done by this next weekend...

            • Went to the local bike shop here in Norman...

...and there was a 79 special with full pacifico touring gear parked outside. Hopefully that guy will get on here to learn a thing or two about his bike. He was looking at getting his timing chain replaced.

Also, picked up a Crampbuster on clearance for $5. Now I'm good for slabbin' it!

              • I took the main fuse from the left side of my bike and installed it in the fuse block behind the right side cover.
I had my bike on the dyno a few days ago and solve a few minor problems dropped to a lower 124 main jet (Dyno Jet kit) and another 1/4 turn on my idle jet screws now at 4 1/4 turns out. It's running like a champ now so I can concentrate on how she looks now!

Wow! I thought it was bad when my 400 sat for 13 years and I had to get it going again (ok, didn't have to, but I wanted to ). But I ran into the same kind of thing, but it was almost 3 years ago, and I don't remember what the problem was, but it was either fire or fuel that was missing from the equation. I think I had to clean the carbs something like 6 times, and that was with having drained all fuel from the system before it sat.

                      • I had my front tire replaced at the local shop (took 3 hours, but it was free), and that seems to have solved my front-end bounce problem. Now I need to replace the missing radio knobs in the fairing that fell off because of the bouncing!

Also got a new B&N seat cover in the mail yesterday, and got that installed. It's purdy! Only thing is, the new cover has a bit more "tack" to it, and it holds onto my pants. It doesn't let me slide around like I used to. At least now I won't have to worry so much about water soaking into the foam through the splits in the original cover.

                        • My used 4-1 pipe came in the mail today, I sand blasted it, and painted it with vht header paint. Also, re-routed my oil cooler lines from in front of the frame to behind (looks 100 times better now) when the paint dries I'll probably install the exhaust today.

                          • Well, yesterday I sanded, prepped and painted the side covers. Tonight, I'll finish fixing the small dent in the tank (no big deal, but if I'm putting a nice paint job on it, the dent would detract from the job), and depending on how ambitious I'm feeling I might go ahead and paint the tank. Then again I might not, cause the first showing of Iron Man 2 is at midnight, and if SWMBO will allow it, I just may be at the movies tonight.

                            • Fired up the '78E today, it was cranky, but once it fired up it ran nice.

Got the seat ready to put on, and now i can road test it.

It's blowing the usual 'I haven't run in a long time' blue, and I discovered one of thepetcocks is leaking badly.
Nice day, if it doesn't rain...

                              • Today, I set out to put new rear pads on my bike. Once I got the caliper off the cylinder wouldnt compress all the way to accomidate the beefy new pads. The old ones had about 0.050" left to them. Well, after I tried compressing it with no luck I knew what to expect when I removed the master cylinder cover. Yep, you guessed it, brown/rusty crap. So, I proceeded to drain the system and clean the MC. As some of you may know this isnt very complicated job, but I made the mistake of draining the MC, lines, and caliper without forcing the caliper piston with the fluid in it. I knew better but decided to try it anyways b/c the piston seemed to move freely. Unfortunately, the piston wouldnt come out, its always that last 1/4". So I sprayed out the caliper with some break cleaner and called it good. Cleaned, reassembled everything and now I have good rear breaks. BTW the sintered pad I put on didnt make a peep. I still have to bleed them just a little more as the pedal isnt as hard as I would like.

IS THERE ANY GOOD WAY TO FILL THE REAR MC WITH OUT OVER FILLING IT AND MAKING A MESS???
