  • I did a safety check, aired up the tires and suspension for two people, then let my buddy and his wife take off for a day ride.

We haven't been able get his CB900 running long enough to ride anywhere and he has prostate cancer so they're using my bike today.

    God bless Bob and Dodie.

      • First longish ride in new seat

SWMBO and I took off for a few hours to check out a couple little towns outside San Antonio and I had just replaced the old seat with a king/queen one from a standard on Great Ranger (a Special) and this necessitated removing the luggage rack I had adapted to fit the special cuz it wouldn't fit in the adapted holes with the new seat so I left it off.

She was not happy - felt with nothing back there like she might slide off if I accelerated too much. She wouldn't of course, but now I need to figure out what to do back there.

Nice weather - nice ride. Bike ran well, but I am still only getting 27mpg - 95 miles to fillup with the special tank

I bought the Venturer tank from Andreas and am going to paint it - but I think I need to get another Standard for it instead of adapting to the Special - then I can mount the rack, tank and back rest for SWMBO and all will be happy.

Well, He did, but the other guy had something entirely different in mind for me this evening.

I just got back from rescuing my friends and my bike from along the side of the freeway. The charging system went out and the battery went flat. Dead bike but my friends are fine! I put the spare battery in it and rode it home ~25 miles. I'm a little depressed but I'll take a look tomorrow morning to see what happened.

The headlight relay and tachometer were and are still working so it can't be too serious... says me.

            • Rebuilt two of the three calipers that were sticking, with new pistons and seals, new brake fluid, Changed oil, cleaned and oiled pod filters, air up tires and shocks, bought new fork seals since front shocks didnt show any air pressure when checked, maybe do those and the oil sometime later since holding air for now. I still have to hunt down wire/signal problem. Using hand signals to turn for now, also adjusted idle mixture screws, otherwise just riding, running fine. Its good to be riding again

                  • Well tomorrow I'm going to paint the tank and side covers, and depending on if I can whine enough to get SWMBO to let me get 2 mirage kits I may do the fairing at the same time. Then when it's done I take some good pictures and post them so everybody can laugh at my poor painting skills, although it does look pretty good for a rattle can. I gotta say that duplicolor has gotten it down on making it easy to get a really good finish with a rattle can.

                      • When I first got my bike, the tires were shot - especially the front. I replaced the front wth a Shinko, because that's what I could afford. I haven't had any problem with it, except for one thing. Above 75mph, the front end bounces up and down quite badly, but I always thought it was the forks. At MOTM, we looked at the tire, and discovered that it was just a tiny bit out of round! Yesterday, I took it to the place I bought the tire, and mentioned the problem. They immediately put the bike up on the lift, and verified the problem. They even took the tire off the rim to be sure it had been mounted correctly. This was my lunch hour, and I had not planned on having anything actually DONE to the bike at that point. They voluteered to take me back to work while they finished, and pick me up when I was available to come back!

It turns out, even a year and a half after I bought this $50 tire, they are giving me a replacement for free! So, next Tuesday, I'll have a nice, fresh front tire, and hopefully, I'll be able to ride over 75mph without rattling my teeth out.

                        • While replacing the (leaking) front main seal on my 68 F100, I found a 1/2" flatwasher laying on the fender (not from this repair.
I used this washer to seal the front of my 750 final drive. Now to stumble across the 3/4" copper water pipe fittings I have around here somewhere and I can install the 750 fd.
