yesterday, I got all the brakes fixed and replaced. had to get the tire removed and cleaned to get the bead to seal properly. Now all I need is to get another tach and waiting on the clutch springs to get here and I have a leaking fork seal. Once I get that stuff fixed it should be like new, cant wait.

How are you finishing these pieces, and what did you use to blast them?
As for me, I have my exhaust back on the bike, and I think one more gallon of Acetone or MEK and all the old Kreem liner should be gone from the gas tank. So far, no leaks.

A few mods I have done to my yet unnamed XJ over the last year:
All of the aluminum covers are polished including the filter cover and oil pan. the headers are painted with VHT ceramic, which holds up well and does not discolor. The windscreen and heat shields on the muffs are hand fabbed from sheet stainless scrounged from an old commercial ice machine. I tried to use an English Wheel to form the SS, but stainless does not like to be played with like that, so I just used the roller.
Closeup of the screen. It started out as just the center section, but I did not like the look and wanted more screen so I added the mini's on the sides.
I used SS bar stock to make the attachment hardware. All screws and finish washers are SS as well. A buddy of mine said it should be some type of break-away set up so I don't cut my head off if I rear end someone. I originally had just the stainless in the shape of a windscreen, but considered my buddy's comment that it was a rolling guillotine, cut it down and added the Optix glass. I used the SS part as a mold to form the glass in the oven, just bake at 300 degrees for 5 minutes and enjoy!
I burned myself good on the muffs before and didn't want my wife to do the same. I want to include her in the riding and didn't want her to "burn out" on the idea. I just welded 1/4" SS nuts on the muff and attached. The nuts give separation and allow air flow between. I also used a sheet metal roller to form the shields. When the muff is blazing hot, I can still put my hand on the shield and leave it there for a second or two .
I had my eye on a rare optional Yami XJ sissy bar on Ebay, but did not have the bux to compete, so I decided to make my own. I went to the McMaster-Carr web site and found 1/4"alum rectangle tube with an inside dimension close to the outside dimension of the stock part. I then cut off the "grab" section of the grab bar and married the extension between them, tapering the tube at the ends for a cleaner transition. It is held on by screws right now, but I might weld if I am happy with it. The carry rack is made of welded steel tube and painted wrinkle black. I am going to relocate my turn signals to the rack so I can extend my SS soft bag supports (lower left) down for a better position. The bags look kinda funny up that high and when I lower them I will have more room to tie more stuff on top of them for the inevitable camping trip to Yosemite and environs! I would like to go to the CaliRally, but it is down south and I need my vacay for my daughters wedding and to visit my new grandson in Utah.

That is very, very slick, and if you have beat-up or slightly rusted-out mufflers would be a perfect way to 'restore' them....

Charles, I know I briefly talked to you about that spacer and the bearing cover, so I took a pic of my G's rear wheel:
The sleeve was inside the bearing cover, but not all the way in there.
I think your rubbing problem may be an alignment issue instead. Remember, the crwon nut gets torqued on first, then the pinch bolt gets tightened, maybe that's all we need to do to get your rear wheel rolling right.

Hi Nick,
Your fairing is a Yamaha although designed by Vetter. I believe they were offered as a dealer option i 1980 and came standard on the Venturer in 81. Good looking paint job

Yeah, Phil after I checked on Vetter web site, I realized that, because my bags do not look anything like Vetter bags....and fairing itself had Yamaha badges and serial numbers on it...changing my sig right now
