this is one of the first political posts that hasn't gotten too personal and made my heart try to thump out of my chest... all in all... I think it's been a good volley...
Friendly discussions are a good thing...

Looking back over them - I would not say they were all friendly discussions. Ahh much easier to share your opinions -after the fact. It's not just getting good now - it's over. Along with the hopes of a lot of people. Just start a new "We love Obama" thread. That way I won't bother reading it.
ongoing... I didn't realize there was a moratorium on opinions...
and just like any other post... if you don't like it... don't click on it...
and I won't be the one starting the "We love Obama" thread...

Your right. My mistake. I thought I was on a motorcycle forum. Apparently I not only clicked on the wrong thread - but the wrong forum as well. I'll try not to make that mistake again. If I want to talk politics I'll go to a political forum. Thank you for pointing out my error. Don't want a politcian telling me how to fix or ride my motorcycle and vice versa. I still think politics and religion are personal and should be left that way. Just my opinion -as you know everybody has one. In the long run it never turns out good - somebody, somewhere will take it personel - and why would we want that???

Hi Mystic,
this section's header plainly says:-
Members Lounge
This is the place for all of the (civil-toned) off-topic chatter that doesn't belong in the other areas.
Thus it's OK to post here about who one likes or doesn't like for US President, about how the phases of the moon affect one's temperament, or indeed, about any subject whatsoever and not be denigrated for doing so, as long as one doesn't use bad language. Check out other sections of the list to get a far better chance of seeing motorcycle related topics, eh?

I woke up to my wallet screaming, THE DEMS ARE IN! Are money troubles are over, the masters of re-distributing wealth will fix everything, on the backs of the middle class.
Wow, this is like deja vu all over again. So, when are the last helicopters leaving Baghdad and Kabul?
We can all look forward to the coming golden years of peace with honor and fat wallets (now with universal health care!) while anyone in the region that ever so much as looked at an American is slaughtered. Everyone in the USA including motorcyclists, Economists, National Socialists, Democrats, Republicans, Independents, P&Fs, Libertarians, Greens and lizard people, can kick back and watch yet-another world series of foreign bloodbaths - available in HD 1080p!
It's too bad no one saw this coming ahead of time, we could have warned the stupid sap^W^Wvictims. Oh, someone did:

Hi Fred. I want to thank you for your advise - as usual you are right. I hate to disappoint you but you are not the first one to point this out to me. So before I get anymore replies about my post I want to apologize to anyone else I offended with my post by replying to the wrong thread. Again. I've only had 22 so I didn't know the rules until now. I will try to refrain from posting to future threads in the attempt not to upset anyone. I guess silly women should stay off of motorcycles's and male web sites - where they don't belong. Maybe the XJ web site will be more accepting. I'll try not to voice my opinions where they don't belong and maybe they will let me in. Thanks again for your hospitality during my visits to your site. Then again I could stay just for spite
No one's more disappointed than I am with how the election turned out.
What fun is there in being a survivalist... if there's no race riots?
Hell... I'm still eating from my supply of freeze-dried food left over from that equally disappointing Y2K thing. I was gonna march on Olympia, take over the state government and rule with an iron fist....
(Sorry... I'm still mad over that one.)
Where was I...?
Oh yeah...
Uhm...
This is an open forum. And like it says, "This is the place for all of the (civil toned) off-topic chatter, etc" Civil toned being the key word there.
People are free to express their opinions here... regardless of how wrong, or unfounded they may be.(TRBIG)
It's like a dinner party amongst friends... polite conversation and the expression of varied ideas... but hopefully without the ensuing food fight.
People who express their opinions here can expect them to be questioned.
Will people's feelings get hurt?
Sure... that's the fun part!
Because "hurt" is an emotion.
And when people's feelings get hurt by hearing opposing views... all that means is that their opinion wasn't based on fact nor logic, but was an emotional construct.
Emotionally based opinion "bubbles" are meant to be burst.
I mean, be honest...
If you held a belief based on nothing but dreams and "feel-good what-ifs"....
wouldn't you want to be told the truth and be set straight?
Ahh... I see....
For the majority of people, that's not true.
Reality... is often too harsh of a reality to live under.
That's why people make up their own.
It's hard to hold two opposing views... Cognitive dissonance it's called in psych circles.
Much easier to live in a made up reality... where everything is nice and puppies never die, etc.
This election for instance:
In a quick, general overview, one candidate spoke of problems and how he planned to address them, the other offered hopes and dreams but little substance, playing on people's emotional longings.
One was a gifted orator, the other not so skilled in manipulation.
Play back some of the videos from their speeches and watch how it's done.
McCain was just your average, puppet politician.
Obama... there was a guy that knew what he was doing.
That little thumb and forefinger gesture that he used constantly was a classic.
He brought it out and used it every time he mentioned change, or dreams, or hope, etc.
He also used it when referring to, or pointing to... himself.
This technique, in the field of neural-linguistics, is referred to as "basing", or "grounding".
The audience associates the words hope, change and prosperity with the hand signal... and then as the hand gesture is applied to the speaker, these traits and desires are then transferred to him.
He's a skilled salesman... not like the guy selling Ginsu Knives from a booth at the county fair.
Once you know how it's done, it's easy to see through the smoke and mirrors and see that there's no substance behind it.
They're all the same... politicians and Kirby Vacuum Cleaner salesmen.
