Black Beauty
You are by your XS like I am by mine in that mine is pretty much as trick engine wise as I can make it and still be a reliable street bike even though it's not ridden a lot as my V-Max is my primary bike. Mine has a little over 36,000 miles since I bought it new in 81 and about 3,000 miles since I went through it during the winter of 07-08. My header is an original Super/Trapp that I purchased in 85 but I only used it for a couple of years before I took it off and went back to the stock pipes. When I bought the header I ordered two mufflers and one of them I removed the stock mechanical baffle and replaced it with a ceramic wrapped 2.5 inch core which I'm presently using because of the horsepower thing. I always liked the black head pipes like yours on a black bike and if mine starts turning yellow I 'm going to send them to Jet/Hot and have them coated with their shiny black ceramic finish. I also always thought the XJ like yours was the best looking of all the Elevens and because of the larger gas tank and rear shocks made a better tourer than a Special but on the downside the XJ was heavier and had a smaller horsepower rating than the others but of course the horsepower thing can be corrected if one chose to do so.
Because these old bikes are such classics, I tend to ride mine only sparingly. I've got a friend who has a restored Honda CBX and another who has a Honda CB 1100-F with a big bore kit and Kerker pipe. My stoked XS kills the CBX but the stoked 1100-F is still marginally quicker than my "1179" however I've got a much bigger motor in the works that will tame that "F" once and for all. We have a great time fooling with these old bikes from the Disco era and if you are like me, mine cannot be bought.
