    2009?

Phil, I have not set a date for 2009 yet. If you mean 2008, it's the 27th and 28th of September. Summer is going OK, have not ridden in a while, do to my back pain flairing up, trying to get it in shape for this ride anyway!!

Guess not, Bud! Hey I'd sleep with y'all...

I am working on getting down there but I will have to camp to defray expenses. And might have to leave a little early again to get back.

            Hotels around TWO Suches, GA

My son has popped up wanting to attend (non-rider he'll be driving my jeep). I'm already rooming with Gary so I was wondering if there are motels relatively near the rally he could room at?

TWO website lists some local cabins, motels are in short supply unless you want to stay 15 miles away. Link at end. There is a small two bed room, in past few years our group has not booked this room, is it still available?

              Looking for a cabin?

              We suggest these sites

Suches Valley Cabin 3/4 mile from TWO on Hwy 180

Morning Mist Cabin 3.5 miles from TWO on Hwy 180

The Trail Cabin 4 miles from TWO on Hwy 180

Quaint Mountain Cabin 4.5 miles from TWO on Hwy 60

Lake Winfield Scott Cabin 5 Miles from TWO on Hwy 180

According to the TWO list, Dales is still having fuel problems and running out. Please do not expect to get fuel in Suches. They have been doing a $25 limit on fuel purchases.

                Also from the list:

By the way...keep Dale in your prayers as he has been in recovery for many weeks now and still has a while to go. He also doesn't have health insurance and they have set up a jar on the counter for any contributions. If you've found him to be as nice a guy as I have over the years...drop in a few bucks and thank God for the good health you have.

                  TWO fuel

I was there a couple weeks ago. They were out of fuel...But Offered me some out of a gas can if I was too low to make a station. I was OK. Local rider folled me to be sure I could make station.

Closest fuel is about 10 miles away - Winding, Steep, Twisted road with some Great views over steep drop offs; the kind of road auto drivers warn you about. Fill up before coming to town or plan to make gas run before group ride.

Just do not pull into Suches on reserve.

I will try to make it this year after missing a couple of years. I'll see if I can get that Friday off and will probably stay at the High Valley Resort unless something better comes up. I look forward to seeing everyone.

I liked that ride we took last year when we were down to four bikes. The one we took along the river to Tellico Plains and on to the Cheroholla (Sp) Skyway.

                                Just waitin'

Well, I think I'm ready. Just sittin' around waiting for Fri the 26th I've got a new ride - I'm not used to it and am learning I don't know squat about a modern bike.

The bike I bought (from a dealer in Hazzard county, KY) is an '03 Suzuki Bandit 1200. This sucker will go and I'm a bit embarrassed to admit I haven't managed to get it into the rpm range where the engine actually makes it's power yet. I also can't come close to cornering to this bike's capabilities which is funny since everything I read about this bike seems to say it's cornering isn't up to par with better bikes (R1, R6 Yamahas are two I can think of right off). I love it though and it's handling is light and quick to me.

I'm definitely learning and due to my personal workload this year I'm just not getting the ride time I'd like to so I'll be a newbie on this rig but it does corner easier (lighter feel) than the XSs

I did get the map offline and was looking at the various roads around Suches. Of course I can't tell what the roads are really like but at least I can familiarize myself with the area. I've never traveled in this area of Georgia so everything is new. I was pleased to find it isn't that far and I should be able to make it in an easy day.

I'm going to trailer the bike down. Is that going to pose any problems? I'm not up to riding this particular bike that far yet. It also doesn't have anyplace to put anything (no bags, luggage rack, nothing) so some customization will be required during the winter to make it something closer to the sport-touring class. I think it will be fun to ride for this rally though. I'm starting to think of the Bandit (same with the FZ1) as a modern XS1100 kinda machine - very adaptable, will do more than one thing well, does a lot of things good, etc.

So watch out for me. I'll be driving a red Jeep Liberty and pulling the Bandit on a small trailer. Honk if you should happen to drive by me!

very best and good riding everyone!
