  • If you are talking the new river gorge, it is a pretty cool ride. But I think my 650 Seca was a little better suited for it than my 78E. But still very do able.

OK, I guess it's up to Greg and how long he wants to wait for us and where he wants to meet. Tonto, let us know. And I have done this route before.

      • The New River Gorge

If you guys want to ride down into the Gorge and back up on the other side, then I can make it happen. With a quick photo stop or two -- -- allow 45 minutes to do this. [Underline quick]
I'm estimating that it's aprox. 10 miles of One Way, mostly one and a half lane paved road with numerous switch backs -- -- -- probably second and third gear. ['might see fourth gear; but doubtful]
One must enter from Rt. 19 on the northern end of the New River Gorge Bridge, exit back onto Rt. 19 at Fayetteville.
I can meet you at the New River Gorge Bridge Overlook [northern end of bridge] or anywhere else that is "handy" to all of us.
My friend Keith, from MD. will be in the S'ville area on Friday also and will be traveling to Pineville too.
If anyone is interested, give me a PM and/or private email. Also, I haven't checked out Marty's phone list; SO -- it would probably be best to call me at my home phone no. that day to confirm a meeting time. I can be to the overlook at the bridge in about 30 to 45 minutes from my home so be sure to figure that into the formula to meet up also.
        Ride Safe,

        • I haven't spoken to Brent recently, but I expect to be riding up with him. We were a day late the last two years. I don't know if this year will be the same.

            Greg,

OK. Lets go with meeting at the North overlook at a "ballpark" time of 4PM 5/26 if that's good with you guys. We will contact by phone as we get close or if our time is way off. Is that your home # on the list or cell#?

              • We plan to start from TWO on Friday morning and have a long day on US-19. We have daughters along, so we can't push too hard. Hope to see you all late Friday night.

                  Marty,

Riding accross the bridge is about 40 seconds of interstate without much view, as the short wall along the side of road obscures most of it.

National park Welcome center has good views etc.
Ride down to river accross and back is about 45 minutes.

                  • The Sunday route includes stopping at the gorge overlook and visitors center, just not riding down to the bottom. I had that ride down included at first, but the rest of the day was too long, and Tonto indicated it was a bit of a tight close slow road, and I was thinking it might not be for everyone.

We can of course make adjustments, not a problem. Let me know what everyone thinks.

                      • Marty. As Brent says, the bridge is a cool view, but it's brief. The visitors center has good views that involve a walk and Lots of stair steps. I'd be interested in the gorge ride if it winds up being do-able. Almost time!

                          • 1st weather report

My meteorologist friend at Erie's TV24 Jet Pinpoint Weather has a preliminary prognostication for the Pineville, WV area:

                            Marty:

Looks mainly dry Friday & Saturday...Chance of some rain or a t-storm Sunday and Monday, but warm throughout with highs in the low to mid 80s and lows in the low to mid 60s.

                            Tom A.

                            Looking GOOD!!

Better than the 38 degrees F I had last night...

                            • Taking the road down the gorge is no problem, we can just shorten the trip somewhere else. If more folks want to do that sing out now or Sunday.
