You can change at the border or at your local bank. However your local banks don't seem to stock Canadian very often. You can check at your bank if they don't have any you can stop at the border.
I know some canadians when in the states just use the bank machine to get american money. Not sure if it will work this way. Some places will take american money and maybe give you a exchange rate. Some won't.Tom

Banks usually offer a slightly better exchange rate and lower service fee than the booth at the border crossing. However the crossing booth is convenient. expect $3 to$5 service fee at the border.
Good to hear passport arrived.

A general plan /schedule of XS North.
Check In Friday afternoon onwards.
Friday Dinner: 7:00 pm Mark's Resturant which is Next door to the Motel
Offers Chinese and Canadian food.
Saturday am Various options for breakfast
9:00 am Stands up
Ride to lunch
Saturday Dinner 6:30pm Dominoin Hotel Roast Beef Buffet and Menu to choose from.
Sunday am Same options for breakfast
9:00am Stands up
Ride to Lunch
Dinner to be decided.
There we have a plan.

Trick is to not have any Canadian lucre left when you get back across the border, as it suddenly becomes 'funny money' here and no one will take it except banks and they usually also take their cut.
