  • Having been through Mystic many a time in varying degrees of busy-ness, it will be quite congested with this festival, as Mystic is a very artsy-craftsy type of town. When it's a normal weekend it's crowded. The weather is supposed to be very very nice to boot!

In the middle of town is a working drawbridge, very neat, very quaint, and someone ALWAYS wants to take their boat through at the height of traffic, which means the bridge goes up, the traffic stops, and we sit there in the backup. Doesn't matter which direction you come from, the backup is there as there is one Main Street through the town and the only way to get across the water.

Considering that some of us will be on air-cooled bikes, this may become rather uncomfortable. I, personally, am not able to walk very far to boot, so if we have to park "way out there", I may have to re-think going, or meet up with you folks later.

The ambience of the original Mystic Pizza is very nice, but is it worth the aggravation? Mystic Pizza II is a few miles away, out in the "country", and very easy to get to off I-95. It does not have the atmosphere that MP1 has (I guess, I have never been to MP1, just by it), but it is very nice with lots of parking and good food (I've been to MP2 a number of times).

Whatever you guys want to do....or maybe we should consider meeting at a certain spot, for instance, Exit 89 (Allyn Ave.) off the interstate and figuring out what to do from there.

    • Just checked the map, exit 89 Allyn St. looks as good a place as any to meet up and recon.

I'll call it, then, meet just off exit 89 arouind 11-11:30, then we can head to Mystic 2, during lunch we can discuss the rest of the day.

        • Bob

I'll try and go over early and see if we can sneak in a back way I'm thinking maybe down River Rd. The trick will be finding a place to park.

According to the Chamber of Commerce Website set up starts at 6am and they have to be done for the Show start at 1000, so I should be able to get a pretty good idea of what's what at 9 or so.

          • So, do you want me to meet you at Allyn Ave instead? Or will you be back home at 10:30?

                • What a GREAT time with a GREAT bunch of folks! The weather was perfect, with high puffy clouds, bright sunshine, and temps in the low 70s. I rode over to Russ's place, only to find the other Russ and Earl in his driveway! We yakked for a while, then RussN took us on a pleasant backway ride over to Allyn Ave. Exit 89 off I-95, where we found Randy and the lovely Carolyn waiting for us. Carolyn apparently met Randy somewhere, left her car there, and rode with him over to Mystic. When I say Carolyn is lovely, she truly is, inside and out!

Anyway, we all met and introduced each other and waited for the rest. While there, an accident happened on I-95 and backed up the highway, the exit ramps, everything...and we were almost in the middle of it! Top it off with Allyn Ave. apparently becoming the main route to the Art Festival in Mystic and it was plain to see that Mystic Pizza 1 was not a wise destination.

Two more riders eventually appeared...I hope they will forgive me and the others will chime in here and let us know what their names were for I CRS...I do know one had a nice XS and the other had a beautiful newer GL1800...we waited and waited for Ben and Tod to appear, but no sign of them, so we made a sign in the dirt with Ben's name and arrows pointing to where we went, took pics of it to prove it, and RussN led us on our way to Mystic Pizza 2, the back way again and very pleasant one at that!

Once we reached MP2 we found, much to our surprise, Ben and Tod there waiting for us! They had apparently got in the area early, went to MP1, found it very crowded already, and headed over to MP2 to wait for us. They had almost given up on us when we arrived.

We all went inside and enjoyed pizza and other stuff. Afterwards RussN announced that he had an emergency to handle, so I was left with being Road Captain for the day. I took them on a roundabout backway through some Connecticut countryside, then we all split up just outside of Mohegan Sun to go our separate ways. I hope they enjoyed the ride!

A lot of photos were taken, none of them by me, so I hope the rest will share them with us!

A fine, fine group of people!

                      • This is my 'best' day...

Even if I did leave the bike at home!
What a great bunch! The weather couldn't have been better! Heck, the pizza was even good!
Bob, those roads when we were heading out were wonderful! Beautiful scenery, the old buildings, the twisties...excellent choice!
It was so great to meet everyone and finally put faces to the names!
I have some pictures all set:

Our impromtu set of directions for Ben, didn't get a shot of the note we left impaled on that rib bone. Geez, sounds like the old West!

The Old Coot! Witch is meeting him next time, promise!

Swamp Thing. Randy the bike is just flat out awesome!! I loved it! Thanks for letting me volunteer as 'ballast'!

Some of the wonderful roads that Bob led us down.
