    Just some thoughts....
How about a mini Rally? Nothing formal. Arrive Friday night, ride Sat. and go home Sunday. Do it before leaf season to avoid motel rip offs and leaf peepers. Map out a 9 to 5 Sat. ride ahead of time. I have a friend in the Berkshires that rides the tri-state area all the time so he could provide the route.

Anybody know a clean, cheap motel? Old style, park in front of your door is preferable.

      • Oh boy, here we go again! Someone was due to say something, so I decided to get it out of the way.....

Not sure I can afford a weekend though, I return to work September 3 and start making some money again sometime a few weeks afterward.

No problem. It can be 1 night or just meet up and have lunch and ride home. Some can stay a night others can go home. We'll see what the interest is. Time is running out though.

How 'bout going up to Adams Mass. the area has some pretty good sized mtns close to 3000 ft...also looks like all the trappings of any town...motels,liquor store ...restaurants etc...roads must be pretty up there too.

              • Adams MA is approx 250 miles from me by my routing..which would take me up the Taconic Parkway in NY a beautiful road that does not allow any trucks on it It would be a great alternative to the Thruway. The only thing is I have heard speed limits are slower and there are speed traps. The other thing I have heard is that the Taconic is prone to alot of very windy conditions...but it should otherwise be ok if weather permits ofc..

                • If the Mohawk Trail is a possibility, here are some links for lodging and the official website...

                  http://www.mohawktrail.com/listings/...?CategoryID=13

                  http://www.mohawktrail.com

The Mohawk Trail offers some spectacular views and very good roads. There is the famous Hairpin Turn on the side of Hoosac Mt (I think it's the Hoosac Mt) that has a tremendous view.

The Mohawk Trail is always a safe destination! I do believe the road to the summit of Mt. Greylock in North Adams has been closed for the time being however, a few weeks ago we went by it and a sign said something about it being washed out. I'm sure that will change.

                  • The Mohawk Trail would probably be a better location for a weekend or overnighter (or even XS East 2009). I was thinking the Quabbin or northwestern CT for a comfortable day trip that might be reachable for many folks, more of a central spot.

Actually, IMHO, northwestern CT would be better for a day trip for those in MA, VT, RI, eastern NY, eastern PA, NJ, NH, ME...the Quabbin might be a bit far for the outer fringes....

                    • Adams is interesting. I've always wanted to go out there for fun (without a gasoline tanker behind me to drop at the local station). It is hilly and very pretty.
BobE-the Mohawk was one of the places I was considering. It would be fun AND would make a great t-shirt.LOL!
Someone decide on the trip for next month and we'll work on XS East 09 over dinner when we meet up!

OK here's a possible plan. If we can agree on dates then I'll post a new thread to alert other XSive's.

Torrington, CT is a good base and jump off point for a NW CT tour. Looks to be about 150 miles for most folks a little more from eastern PA.

We can meet up on a Sat. at say 11AM, ride for a hour or so and have lunch. Ride for another hour and those wanting only a day ride head home. The rest continue on and arrive back in Torrington around 4-5PM and spend the night drinking beer and bull sh*ting. Get up Sunday have breakfast and split for home.

Dates we have are Sat. the 6th and 20th. No rooms available on the 13th for some reason. I'm good for both and would stay overnight. Motels are few and far between and about $100 a night. Most others are BB's with frilly beds.

                        Make your choices.

                        • Sweet!

That sounds like an awesome plan!
Let everyone else decide and I'll tag along seeing as how it doesn't matter what days I need to take. The 20th would be better for me though because it gives me time to get 'released' to go.
I'll stay over too. I don't want to miss the BS session in the eve...LOL!!

                          • Torrington is an excellent spot! CT-8, 202, a goodly number of nice roads to cruise around on. Good choice, Russ!

I would be open to the 20th. I might even be able to do an all-nighter, have to wait and see who I owe by then...

Count me in for the 20th if it happens!

                            • There have been talks of a fall rally to help plan the spring XS East 2009 rally. How about moving this one a little north for us Ontario guys. Perhaps in or near the area that it's being held.
