Shifting and shift cover is done! I also put in the new cam chain guides. My plan is the clutch by Tuesday with the cover on. I'll post more pics later.

Slight detour on the work. Pictures are from the '79 Special I was getting ready to start riding for the year. First ride and it sounded wrong and loud. Checked under the pipes while at idle and felt something under the right side. You can see what happened after only 47 years! Geeze, can someone make a bike that does any better? OH, that's right, nobody does!

Just need to put it back on! Yes, the welds are NOT nice looking, but it is welding Chromed steel, rust, and carbon. I added a bit of 16 gauge to the bottom for extra strength. The flat black is all I could fine quickly for high temp.

It's nice to have the skills to be able to do that yourself. Looks good Ray.

Not sure how it will hold up, but I put some silver paint on so it looks a little better.

Getting the two old gaskets out of the head was a PITA! But, they are out and new goes in tomorrow. I need to wait for the paint to dry....

              Nice job.

The paint looks good. Any special type of paint?

The flat black is high temp paint and the silver is just rattle can, so it may burn off. I was just trying to get it to look good again, even though you probably will not be able to see the weld under the cover. I'll be putting the pipe back on in about two hours, and then warm it up and change oil/filter and check carbs. After that, start riding next week when it get warmer around here.

I just picked up something quick. The black IS VHT, but silver was not available at that store. It's almost all behind the shield, so it's for protection more than looks.

This is great stuff. Holds up to road salt for several years on my Guzzi.
