    Sept Reno Rally

    Hey guys,
I have a small problem, september is comming and I just took the head off my machine to replace it and I don't know of a shop here in the reno area that will do the valve work on it, you know port polish and do the valves... Can anyone help me? I would really like to start riding her again but sad to say I may have to wait till next summer. Got new daytona bars comming anfd the case guards are in place but I wanna do the head and the carbs. I have the cam cover off and the head bolts are loose but I don't know how to take the cams out or any of that other stuf without really hosing it up. Any help would be grand.

The only shop in Reno that will work on our bikes anymore is Reno Cycles and Gear. Your looking at about $600-800. Just had my head done by them a few months ago. Tell Chuck that Matt sent you in there. Taking it down as much as you can will save you a couple hundred off that in labor, so good idea there. I can help you out with the carbs if you want to save some more.

        Okay Sounds good,
All I wanna do to the carbs is re-Jet and re-build so I can use the pod filters and the 4-1 pipe. I would apreciate any help.
        Thanks

So are we still on for the first week-end in September?

I'm getting stoked about a butt burner through the desert to the Cascades!

Yup!! I can't wait to ride with others of my kind I can roughly guess that we should have between 15 and 20 bikes. But as I said in the other thread, I'll P.M. everyone whos shown interest in the next couple weeks to try to get a more accurate count. I'll also specify where we'll meet on Friday night(for those who roll in that early), and Sat. morning for breakfast. Just a little heads up: We'll be riding through the mining town of Virginia City on Sat. There are many shops for the ladies, and some interesting mine tours for us guys. But we won't be there more than an hour or two. Other stops over the weekend will include Genoa(first Nevada settlement), and little mountain towns like Downieville, Markleeville, and Bear Valley,CA. The routes offer superb mountain scenery, and temperatures should be ideal.

I'm riding Zilla. I wish I could tow Zeus behind so they could both be there.

I'm meeting a friend in Denver that has a '81 SH. He's gonna ride out with me if he can get away.

I will be finding curvy roads from Seattle area to Reno and arriving on Saturday evening Sept 3rd. Did we agree on a Hotel? I am looking forward to meeting other XS'ers and seeing the bikes. A buddy of mine is flying into Seattle and renting a bike to cruise down with me (he could be renting a harley ) , but it will still be a fun ride. //Brian

Let me know the Hotel, and I'll get the time off. I need to do the "fix" on 2nd, but it may have to wait. I'll probably do a run up to my sisters in Applegate Thursday, then on up to Reno Friday.

Reffer to the thread under Rallies/NA Southwest Reno. There is more info there. The Days Inn might be full by now, but the Econolodge next door should have some rooms available still. But I've read that the place is NO Taj Mahal.

The Days Inn is now full..... Lets go now with the Motel 6, which looks pretty good, and is priced at about $85 per night. It has better ratings than the Econologde. I'll also look into getting a group rate with 10 or more rooms. The info. is:
                        2375 LAKE TAHOE BLVD
US 50/LAKE TAHOE BLVD AT SR 89
SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, CA, USA, 96150
                        530-542-1400

I'm sorry if you guys are having some trouble following me here. Bare in mind that I'm a rider, and not an event planner. But I'm doing the best I know how. I'll get better with experience though.

Just talked to the Motel 6, they have plenty of room, but don't do group rates. So $83.99 a night is it. The Manager on the phone sounded really professional, so I feel pretty good about this place.

Just made my reservation at the Motel 6. As a "senior" (over 50) the rate is about $75 a night for one. I'll be riding up from Santa Cruz area, if anyone else is going up. We could meet along the way, and ride on up the "hill" to South Lake Tahoe.

The "senior" rate sounds pretty good! At that price I might do the over night.

I'm in Fairfield, off I-80. Maybe we could hook up for the ride.
