    • Motoman, can you clarify what you mean by the pilot circuit is "maxed" out? On the last page he says the screws are only turned out 1.25 turns.

      In my understanding, at full throttle and large throttle openings when vacuum is low, the pilot circuit is contributing less relative to idle, steady-state cruise and small throttle openings where there is high vacuum.

      To the OP, are the slide diaphragms in good condition and seated properly under the carb tops when you screw them down? I'm reaching for stuff now. It may have already been talked about but it's been seven pages!

        Yes the diaphragms are perfect. No light shines through and fluid doesn't either

            Flow rate, because of jet orfice size is then at maximan flow(approx. 3,000rpm), therefore more fuel is fed as rpms increase thru the larger main jet circuit. Pilot jet screws out to whatever just dictates fuel/air ratio.

                  • That should be the vent for the float chamber. IF it's not open, you have problems! Can be flooding or running lean, but usually flooding.

                      Well the number one carb is leaking from it. Just started after I cleaned the carbs yet again lol. With still no change in how it runs lol

                      • Mount the carbs with a C clamp on a 2X8 so they are upright. Pull the bowls and use a long ziptie to keep the floats in the closed position. One side at a time, put a fuel line from a remote tank ABOVE the carbs and allow the fuel to flow. Look to see if it IS flowing, as it should NOT. You may find a leak around the "O" ring that seals the seat for the needle, or you may find a crack in the casting causing the problems.

                        • Well, for starters, you seriously need to check those float levels....specially #1. Fuel levels in bowls are to high, and likely attribute majority of issues your having. Float setting is 23mm for those carbs.

                          • The red arrow in post 128 is the air jet for the main jet. The bowl vents are the two top holes in the bell, left & right. I don't know how you can tell the fuel level in the bowls. There is no tubing connected to the bowls. The tubes are from the petcocks. I don't know where the tube on the left of petcock is from???

                            • If have seen corrosion along the float pin to where it it dosn't allow propper movement of the float.
                              I have also seen sticky float needles in the valve.
                              Too much bending of the float tange can make it at such an angle with the needle valve that it may malfunction.
                              Float bowl gaskets can interfere by rubbing on the float bulb(s).
                              The seals around the needle valve seat can crach/split/leak.
                              Improper float height.

                              If someone has installed non-stock needles or other parts, it is recommended that the manometer method be used for float height, although it seems that your problem is due to something else as listed above. You have a free-flowing float valve for some reason...
