    Tim,
That small "pipe" is for the enriching circuit. Allows fuel to be pulled up for choke. Make sure it's very clean. I had an awful time getting the port in the bowl(s) cleaned where that pipe slides into with the last set I purchased. You should be able to squirt carb cleaner into the port inside the bottom of the bowls and it will eject out the hole where that "pipe" will reside. Son of a gun to get 'em nice & clean if they get gummed up. I had to use a single strand of fine wire to poke through and loosen the goo.

I just spent a half hour looking for a dropped carb screw on Saturday, so I am laughing. Once I lost one of the carb choke detent balls and found it in a far corner of the garage, hours later. Happens to me far too often- think I would learn...

I bought the same gaskets once. Never got around to retuning them with a complaint. I tried to open that hole it with a drill bit, and it came out all ragged and fuzzed. I decided to put them aside instead of using them. It would be OK if you could trim the hole with an Exacto-Knife instead. You can see that part of the carb body is an open channel anyway, so you will not lose any sealing surface if you just open it up where you need it.

A forsner bit will make those a perfect hole without the ragged edges.

I'll try that again Mike.........a forsner bit will make that a ferfect hole without the ragged edges, using a small block of wood for a back-up.

Brant: Worth a try- I do have Forstner bits, not sure I have one that small.

Even better yet, a small hole punch like one used on a piece of leather.

I tried a piece of 1/8" copper tubing that was sharp from the pipe cutter tool. It was too soft. A 'harderer' tube would work.

A leather punch would be ideal if I had one. Good idea.

Also, the needle jets, #1,4 are 301 X-2. #2,3 are 266 X-2. I take it this is by design due to the cylinders being inboard? The needles are all the same, 5GZ6, third position from top(middle position). Main, jets are 137.5 and pilot is 42.5, 180 starter?
I performed the bench sync thanks to the article on here. Oh, and I spent over 45 minutes looking for the washer that goes on the bottom of the needle. I dropped it and heard it hit the floor, man I hate when that happens.

A small leather type punch IS your best bet to open up that hole a bit.

                    Little holes

I had the same issue with motion pro gaskets ..
I went to Office depot and found hole punchers of assorted sizes , Tiny one for carb gaskets and larger for sidecase (5 mm)screws Think I spent a whole ten bucks !

I ended up just trimming with a razor blade. The enrichener cleaned up no problem in the bowl.
Working on routing the fuel lines, oh joy! Still waiting on petcock screens and petcock gaskets. Got the carb buttoned up and mounted.
One weird thing with the wiring I have to look into is the front brake light works even without the key on?

                        Front brake light?

You mean the brake light comes on when you pull the front brake lever? If that's so the switch wire is plugged into the wrong spot inside the headlight bucket.

If ya' got a bench grinder with a fairly fine wheel, rotating the brass tubing, grinding a taper to its sharp inner edge will work also.
