I can't get my carb's tuned properly with exhaust and pods. ):
You said:4 over mains, 1 over pilots, pilot screws 6 out.
Screwed pilot screws down to 3.5 out.
I would go back to stock on the pilot jets. I may start fine, but after you warm it up and go a few blocks it could be overly rich. If you are talking about earlier carbs, you can't block the carb vent hoses or you will start overfilling the carbs... (sorry, I don't know your carb models, I forgot to look.)
Skids (Sid Hansen)
Down to one 1978 E. Stock air box with K&N filter, 81H pipes and carbs, 8500 feet elevation.
And looking at them after the thing chokes would let you KNOW, not think.

I have checked my plugs after every run, and they look great, that is why I THINK they are good. I'm no expert, so although the plugs look good to me, they could still be the wrong mains, but I am fairly confident they are good.

I've tried stock pilots two separate times, in order for it to run pilots screws have to be out like seven turns.
I'm curious to know.... WAS the headlight bucket off this bike at any time???
The reason I ask is........ I installed a new/used headlight bucket last season. After a week or so I had serious stumbling, stalling, backfire problems. ONLY while I was moving. I went absolutely NUTS trying to figure out why.. Then I remembered, ALL of the ign./ power wires are in that bucket and they were all disconnected and re-connected..... I went back in the bucket and checked, cleaned and rechecked all of the connections. Problem GONE!!!!!!!!! You may be chasing your tail looking at the carbs or fuel. I would start disconnecting, cleaning, greasing all the electrical connections starting at the battery. "Deoxit" is an awesome cleaner. It can be found at electronics store and music stores where they sell amps, guitars, and things. AND just because it might not have been off, doesn't mean the problem isn't in there. Give the fuel system and your brain a break. It's not like cleaning connections is a waste of time. If you received this bike in parts, I'm sure they were all neglected. Good Luck!!!

You couldn't POSSIBLY be talking about THIS neat and tidy, all assuredly properly connected ball of wires could you?! ....
Just be cause it looks good doesn't mean it is good. ( 3 divorces)

In any moment of decision the best thing you can do is the right thing, the next best thing is the wrong thing, and the worst thing you can do is nothing.
Yeah basically that was all apart, and I got it hooked up working great, so I thought. Could that crap really be my problem? I though all that was just for the "warning everything is broken" module between the gauges.

Did you check them after you got back to the shop? Plugs will change color in a few seconds, so if the engine is crapping out, hit the kill switch, pull the clutch, coast over to the side of the road, and pull the plugs and look. If they aren't black, then chances are that there are other problems. If two are black, 1-4 or 2-3, then you probably have ignition problems. Usually though, igniton faults leave the plugs at their running color when the ignition failed. They might be wet, depending on how hot the engine is and how fast you got the plugs out.
And if you are using old plugs, all bets are off.

"Mmm, could be!" (munching on a carrot) but have you checked the fuel tank filler cap to see if the vent is plugged up?
If the vent's plugged the engine'll run and rev fine until you get on the road, then it'll pull a vacuum in the tank and basically run out of gas until it sits for a few minutes and the air pressure equalizes enough for the fuel to flow down to the carbs again.
That'd beat the heck out of changing jets again or messing up that pretty blue wiring.

Vent hole?!?! That could be it! I have noticed that sometimes my right hand side filter would run dry... messing with the petckock was the only thing that fixed it.... when I've been riding... I've so far neglected to see if that is happening -_- I really hope that is it so I can feel like a happy idiot!!!!
Right on! That's about the best news I've had all day except for my new clutch springs showing up! Yeah, it's been one of those days.
It's happened to me and a lot of other folks, glad you got it fixed now put it back together and go ride somewhere!
