I threw my colortune in the garbage. Used it twice and was good but then it started arcing from the electrode to the body, not igniting the fuel. I tried all ways of insulating it but it was way too much trouble. Seems its not an uncommon problem. Ill stick with vacuum gauges and ear from now on.

I've never done ear tuning with multiple carbs.

There just seems like too many variables.

You can adjust the idle mix with whatever you use for syncing (carbtune) by Adjusting the idle mix screws to the highest vacuum you can get. Do that on each cylinder and then sync again. Any further adjustments you do will be very small and can then be done by checking plug color.

Again I say that they Morgan Carbtune is the best tool for this. Others work well and cost less, but the Morgan Carbtune is easier to use and less fuss, smaller and much more portable if you want to help others out.

Well my boxes arrived for the carbs.

Looks like I have 42, 137, and 180 numbered parts.

Those pilot jets look wrong. If they have anything others than 6 holes (2-1-2-1 pattern) around the side they will not work.

                that's the one marked 42.

                It has 8 holes 2-2-2-2

Don't use those, use your old ones, should say 42.5 or 45 on them with 6 air bleed holes.

                      180 42.5 and 152 are my jets.

The 6 hole staggered pilots have been pretty fubard by the previous owners...
It has the all metal float valves. Should I keep them, or install the new plastic tipped ones from the kits?
I kept them in the rack and took Em apart.

Right now the bodies are soaking in pinesol in a five gallon bucket.

Guess I need 4 New 6 hole 42.5s...I bet if I put them in with their current state, getting them out again will involve drilling. The screw slot is pretty shot...

Yup, gunna need the correct 42.5 pilot jets.

Those 152 jets will be WAY too big. 137.5 is stock and I doubt one could make enough mods to need 152's.

In the pics it looks like the replacement float needles are all metal. Stick with the all metal ones.

So maybe that's why I'm running so rich? Lol lol

The replacements weren't all metal. But what is in the carbs right now are all metal.

I remembered reading about the plastic issues..that's why I knew to ask.

Okay, so I ran all the innards and bowls through my ultrasonic.

The carbs were soaked overnight in pinesol, then blown out with carb cleaner spray.

Does look like someone sliced into the pilot already, so someone had issues previously...

Yeah, just to save yourself from future issues, easiest just to replace them now. Make absolutly sure that you go out and buy a cheap screwdriver and shape it to fit those jets EXACTLY before you put the new ones in. Keep that screwdriver somewhere and always use it to remove and install those jets.
