scratch that i have decided to keep it simple low tech, and use a hidden switch instead of the key less thing to go wrong and i can always find the switch, but i know i would lose that remote.

      • did a little cleaning

i cleaned up the bike some today to help to get it ready to finish painting everything.
the engine not bad but needs alot more work

here are some pics of how the bike sits now almost there!!!!!

and yes i had to add a spike to the sissy bar.

all that is left to finish is a few electrical loose ends, etch and seal the tank, then start her up.

        • My only concern is the brake light. A cage on your right can't really see it. I have always hated that style setup. Major safety issue in my mind.

i am also thinking about adding this to be better seen and add turn signals, and stay hidden at the same time

it acts as a brake light and has turn signals on each end. and attaches to the underside of the fender

              • Bike is looking really nice. I got a couple questions for you. Are those the EMGO carb filters? If so how did you attach them so they don't interfere with the passages? My other question is where did you find that brake light? I think it would be a real nice addition to the bike. imo

the tail light in the pic is from ghost rider customs, not to expensive either. yes i have read the thread about the filters obstructing the passages (before i got the filters) and mine do not, cant remember the manufacturer though.

                      • need parts?

alright this is my first post so take it easy on me, seen alot of people were interested in the factory jammers, soo i have a 81H that i am stripping to make a "bobber".. which i thought was the term to describe a bike that has been stripped of all un-necessary parts, thus shedding weight. whereas once you start "chopping" and cutting the frame youd be building a chopper or short chop? no? .. anyhoo the 81H came with the jammer front end, locking plastic saddlebags and a two up seatback/ locking helmet box. Also have a 80G(parts bike) with jammer, locking plastic saddlebags and two up seatback (looks like a sissybar with padding and a rack on the back). i would love to sell all of those accesories, also would sell the standard style gastank off the 80. The paint on the majority is not great, and i dont have keys for saddlebags. will post pics of the works shorty.

                        • Before you start hacking that rare '81 standard up, you might look for a trade. I know there's a couple of guys 'up north' looking for one of those, they might be able to fix you up with a better bobber candidate....

Nice job Nitengale, I think that looks great. Theres a few other members on here who prefer stock, those are ok too. How does it ride at speed with the rake and trail changed?

                              • haha i knew id get some guff about choppin the bike. Too bad i started a week ago. my story is the same as nightengales, so similar i had to laugh.. just a case of me not knowing what i had. as far as chopping goes it will be minimal, keeping the rear suspension, cutting from the shock mount back then adding a full rear fender and modern looking fender strut and rigid mounted solo seat. then turning the front fender about 6 inches to make the front plumb with the frnt axle. i was debating going hardtail, then i put a solid strut in place of the shock and went for a ride.. and that will be the last time i ever think of a rigid frame. haha roads aint that good up north eh.
