Ok, like Chris said, the emulators sit on top of the damping rod, they don't slip down in the recess. They fit fine on the Special damping rods, but looking at the Standard damping rods, I don't think they will fit as well, not as much surface area. Here is a comparison of the 2 damping rods....

Yes it is, but someones gotta try it. I would try it, but I don't have a bike that uses Standard forks anymore, my Standard has FJ forks. Problem is, if it doesn't work, you've already ruined your damper rods by drilling them out, it's non reversible.

I dont have the funds or the extra set of forks to experiment on, otherwise I would

Do you have a spare set of standard forks to donate to the cause

Why yes I do have an extra set of damper rods for the 78-79 Standard I can donate. You wouldn't need the whole fork assy, just the rods. Go for it.

If I can fit them into my budget, I may well mod my spare forks over the winter, since I need to pull them apart and replace the seals anyways, I may as well tear them down and go through them and see if the emulators will fit them properly (I'm thinking I can test fit the emulators in there before drilling them to make sure they fit in there properly). Then I can swap back and forth, and with mine being an 80, we can see how they work both with and without air on top of them.

Ok. I have air caps on mine and racetech said no air. I left it empty. My forks are standard and the look like the previous picture the emulators will slide around on it mine did.
If someone could just get the diameter of the emulators we would know. I bet they are the same. I am just curious as to why 6 holes on mikes and not 4 like racetech?

Chris, the way I look at it is, the more holes, the less chance of the old compression circuit causing any restriction. The old circuit must be fully disabled for the emulators to work correctly. Then again, more holes will slightly weaken the damping rod. Mike's recommends 15W oil, so maybe the reason for more holes. If you are using thin oil such as 5 or 10W, less holes probably won't be an issue. I'm running 20 in mine with a single 1/16" rebound hole (hole near top of rod on the side).

I'll pop one of my emulators out this weekend and measure the diameter.
