    o.k.

will I be able to put my lockhart cooler on with it? and while your here. How does the oil routing go thru the cooler adapter plate? I don't want to assume anything I haven't seen. I think TC's adapter can be modified to route cooler lines....

My Lockhart oil cooler plate does not have the bypass valve/spring. The OEM Yamaha one I had did have the bypass.

        flow direction

from the xs11 engine, does the oil flow into the threaded part of the SOFA or vice versa?

          OR...

Visa versa, first into the outside of the filter then through it then to the center to the oil passages.

            I'd but that

Hey T.C. I'd pay $75 for one of these.....I'm sure others would too...The blue ring is the O-Ring. The red lines are solid material(no holes) the rest is self explanatory

chop, I don't think you need all of that ID dished out . Can't remember for sure??? Put your 2 fitting holes that could be side by side laterally (which will make the adapter thinner) and instead of the dished out part, just drill a hole connecting the ports, one toward the engine, 1 towards the filter. Can't remember what the inside of housing looks like but I think that will work. Tryed to load pic...not puter savy.

                  design

this design will cool the oil before the filter. I was going to ask but if the early reply was true then the original adapter sends the oil from the crankcase to the cooler first as well.... The Adapter above can be made of good structure from 1.75" thickness....chop

Good job Chop. Effectice and simple. Just trying to fully understand the enire pocess; comes in from above in the upper large chamber, goes to cooler out the hole, comes back into the lower large chamber through the lower hole, enters the outer holes in the filter, gets filtered as it moves form outside into the center of the filter, then goes back up the green tube to the motor?

                        thanks bandit

the total thickness with this design can go 1.25" and still be structurally sound.....

                            xschop,
If you had the top and bottom "chambers" at an angle, you can reduce the thickness of the adapter to .75". I would put the inlet and outlet at least 90 degrees apart. This will allow the internal room for 3/8" fittings, and still keep the over all height down.

                              rough draft

I am fine tuning the drawing, but you would need at least (or I would want) 1/2 thickness seperating the two chambers for the bolt to thread into/or locknut from below(TC already found this out)...and yes the in/out ports I would stagger for nipple fittings... How tall is the FRAM PH3950? thats the one I thought went on my Honda Civic, wide but short....ideal

Remember, the chambers DO NOT need to be flat, just flat at the center mount. It would take a little more machine work, but I think it could be done easily. I just don't have anything here at work I can draw and scan, so I'll have to wait until later to try and send you a PM with the drawing.
