Rims
The VMax rear rim, already being shaft drive is an easy fit. The down sides for me is that it is a 15" wheel and not a radial. Tire option for a 15" rear are limited. The tire that is on the rim I have is a 150mm (stock I think), but I have found 180s available.
The R1 rim is what I want, but being chain drive requires some major (and I mean major) modification. An FJ13 rim would be perfect, but I have not been able to find any (used). I want a radial on the rear because (I want radials) and I want to install the R1 front end I have (17" radial up front).
A 35mm extention work for both wheel solutions. The formual I keep going back to is 130mm (stock) + (2 *35mm) = 200mm. I can run the VMax wheel (with lot of room), while I work out the R1 rim. I found radial tires have a wider side wall width then bias ply. The 180x50 I have on the R1 rim actually measure 190mm wide. So, I may need 200mm of clearance to fit a 190 tire. For me, a 190 would just fine.
For now, I am focusing on the frame, swing arm and M/D. I figure there is no sense in fussing over what rear wheel, if I don't have the M/D where I need it.
