  • I couldn't stand those tubes through my nose either. I told the duty nurse to take them out or I would do it myself. That's a special kind of torture.

I could only understand Brant about half the time anyway so he must be OK.

    • I had a staph infection from a routine knee scope in Jan of 2002. Three full general anesthesia's in less than 6 days between the initial scope and subsequent clean out surgeries... Third one I woke up on the table, started trying to get the tube out of my mouth and throat. I could clearly understand them telling me "don't" but my instinct kept trying to get it out. I can feel for what he must be feeling in a way, it just doesn't belong in there, despite the fact it belongs in there for the time being.

Brant, it's great to hear what we are hearing! You are getting back to yourself and will be espousing and correcting and sometimes agreeing with us again soon!

I guess under the circumstances you look pretty good, but as we all know, once you get over fifty looking good is a matter of just being able to open your eyes and finding your glasses on the first grab.

            • I see the wrist restraints... to keep him from grabbing the nurses' butts probably. (Hoping they are female nurses at least? ) Bad deal if your nose itches.

              Get well soon, Brent.

                      Looking good.

Hey folks, I just registered Anita as Motowoman, so she can sign in and give us updates directly! And since Brant's hands are a little "tied up" right now, it's kinda hard for him to type!

                      • Hi All

I just want everyone to know that Brant is better. He is restrained because in times of confusion, he tries to get the IV's out and make a run for it. He better not be grabbing nurses butts!! He will have more injuries than just the current ones.

Tomorrow at about 1pm, MDT, he will be having a gastric tube put in his stomach. He can not swallow at this point. He aspirates anything you put in his mouth and that's just not fun. He is skinny enough but has been losing weight. They need a way to feed him. Needs fuel for his wheels!!!

We are hoping to move him to the rehab floor either Friday, Monday, or Tuesday. That is when his stubbornness will work to his advantage.

Those of you that know Brant personally will understand that the silence from him is kind of refreshing! Hopefully he will be talking our ears off soon. I will never complain about hearing how to rebuild a carburetor again! (kidding.......I'll complain!)

The support, well wishes, and prayers from all of his fellow XS'ers has me humbled and so thankful. I appreciate everything you guys have done. When he is home, I would love it if some of you would do a "Brant Ride" and come see us. We can offer a home-cooked meal and a roof over your heads. Nothing fancy but Brant would love it. You don't know how excited he always got when one of his XS brothers was coming to visit.

His recovery has been a miracle so far. To God be the glory.

                        Love to you all,
                        Anita

                          • Welcome to the madness, Anita!

And don't think of the nurse butt-grabbing as bad.. it's simply physical therapy exercising his wrist and grip.
