  • Gonna be a busy winter. Santa showed up early in waves. New round 8" headlight to replace the square, lowering the gauge cluster, fork gaiters in the mail, progressive springs to put in (PO included in sale), new tail light, fuse box from TC (just ordered), welded a new hoop to the rear and am fabbing a new seat pan, took all the electronics from underneath and slowly arranging them under the seatpan/bump seat, new Odyssey AGM battery (its soooo small and can be mounted on its side!), built a battery box for the bump, and just got my Morgan Carbtune this morning (a full two weeks ahead of schedule). Add to this that I'm starting a new job at a bodyshop on the 28th, and I think I'm in for a whole mess o' busy til spring.

The XV920RH has a big light. I believe the Seca does as well.

        • Bought the light off another XS'er from the site. Was nice enough to sell me his with the ears since he was putting a full fairing on his and the light would be smaller. Totally lucked out, the only other source was Dime City Cycles online @ over $150 or sourcing it straight from the UK for even more money.

          • Today

Bought an emergency kick starter for Yami. Put it on a gave it a try. Worked hot damn. Bought a set of front forks and a the tail piece for the seat. I have a newer seat on Yami. Bought a Yami junior ( 80s 400 ) which is tired so bought a spare decent motor. When the 400 is running I can work more on Yami.
Will be installing an hydraulic clutch.

              • Arghhhhhh!!!!!

Picked up an '81 Venturer last night in the Sierra foothills. We had taken the seat off to jump it and then just set the seat back on without the bolts. We then tied the bike off on my trailer and I hit the road.

THE SEAT BLEW OFF SOMEWHERE ON THE FREEWAY!!!

BTDT....After driving up and down the road I took home for 2 or 3 hours and scouring the ditch I found it laying in a neighbors yard 2 blocks away from the house.

I backtracked 2 hours, no luck.

                    • Rode & used turn signals & brake lights at idle.

That was nice & worked better than it has in years. Many connections were cleaned or replaced. Idle was set near spec. Battery fully charged. Replaced 1157 bulbs with LEDs. While these helped some it still was not right. I believe I found the last poor connection when I replaced the smaller red wire coming from the large battery lead at the solenoid. The original crimped on end (with very large and small wire at solenoid) seemed to be tight & looked good to me, but I replaced the smaller wire, soldering an eye on to it to attach to solenoid post.

Joy. It seems to be working as designed, flashing even with brake lights, high beam & Auxillary driving lights at idle.

Sorry to hear no luck finding it. I hate it when that happens. I drilled some holes in the back of the side covers on my 80SG and tied them to the frame with about a foot of twine. At least once one has come loose and string saved it for me.

                        • Took Ol' Okie out for a short ride this afternoon. First ride since the accident.

Felt good to be riding again.

ToyRun was today here in 'Junction. Rode the Venturer and the temp was a balmy 20F.

Previous year, had some 700riders........maybe a hundred today, and the rest of the 'weekend warrior' HD bunch showed up in cages, whatever that was all about. Don't know what they'd do if it got cold.

                              • Changed the rear tire on my Venture. The tread was still good but it kept going flat. Upon taking it off found that it has cracks that almost went all the way through. I just put the tire on two years ago but the date stamp said it was 8 years old!!

With a new rear tire I rode it to work... It was a balmy 20* F
