Well I got my bike running after sitting for two months and rode her but she was running like crap . I thought it was bad gas but then found the hose from the vac advance was split so I cut it off and put it back together and used a zip tie to keep it from splitting and viola it ran a lot better . So I rode her to my drw appt and she ran great but on the way home I was turning a corner I here a gnky noise and some bumps from the rear end and then it smoothed out wtf I get home and my licence plate and tail light bracket are missing ?? So I hop in the cage and run down to where I heard the noise and there it was my plate light and bracket sitting in the gutter . I checked the rear for cuts but I didn't see anything . And it looks like I will be able to salvage the light and bracket

Not really MY bike but a 1978 XS11
I am visiting my B-I-L for the weekend and he was complaining of uneven running. He has ridden only sporadically since I gave him the Rising Sun and though used stabilizer, I suspected dirty carbs.
I brought the ultrasonic machine and Friday night we tore town the rack and ran four hours of heated cycles in PineSol. Finished cleaning and reassembly this morning and voilá its running like a champ again.
Fun and followed by a trip to the local gun show. A good day.

Fond that the tank on my wife's XJ1100 leaked pulled it off put the one from my bike on it filled it with gas...and it leaked too. They are both leaking at the seal between the petcock and the tank. Looks like I need to order some petcock rebuild kits.Ty

Finally found some time to spend with my baby yesterday!
Got some Seafoam added to the tank and cleaned both front calipers that had been stuck for awhile (thank you John!!!)
I'll actually have a chance to take advantage of the great weather we've been having.

Dusted Her Off...
...and placed "Street Queen" on the lift to hopefully get'r dun this winter:
This is the first work I've done on her in years. I bought her in '92 with 11,888 miles, garaged her in '01 with 20,377 miles and a seeping front MC and bad front caliper pistons. A whole lotta work outta town and life would'nt allow me the time to accomplish very much.
So here's my take on TC's Fuse Block Install:
Fabbed a mounting plate out of teflon
Fastened with 3/16 Aluminum Rivets and washers
I used the plate mounting bolt holes with longer bolts and small spacers to allow room for the lower connectors
Need some lables
Side cover clearance
And done...well ...almost
I was going to use the Aux. Fuse as stock after I cleaned it up and reinstalled as you see above... but...
Got an idea late last night to update the Aux. Fuse Holder
Had one of these in my electrical stash
Bent some ears on the stock fuse holder brackets
Zipped tied the new fuse holder in place
Notched with dremel for wires
Connected
Nice and flush
Had to clearance the plate a little
And installed
Almost done...again
Now I'm done

Nice Job
Well, I will say that the fuse panel installation looks factory. Good job. I do think that you might want to spray some dirt on the engine and oil pan. I don't think it will run right being that clean and shiny. LOL
Just kidding about the dirt. That is the nicest looking engine that I have seen to date. Take lots of pictures while it is that way. Lot of work went in to it, I'm sure. My hands are hurting just thinking about it.

Today
Rode 70 miles in the rain and 5 C. Go slip sliding away on the slippery tar patched sections of the road. Misfire at traffic lights due to water on plug caps. Will be thinking about what next to put on them to keep the water out.
My multi layered riding gear works well, no leaks, but some water runs down my arms and into the gloves.
Finished repairs to my truck just in case it snows.

I had the misfire in the rain too coming back from XS Southeast this fall. I thought it was the caps also but when I covered them it didn't make a difference.
I think it may have been the pickup coil wires down along the left frame under the engine so I sealed them up better.
I haven't had the misfortune to see if that worked as of yet.Greg

Misfire

I will have a look at these wyres as well.
We are down to just above freezing and white stuff has been falling.
Bike may be parked for a few weeks, but there will be plenty of rain soon enough.

My bike would cut out in the wet. I had new plug caps, good wire, so I gooped up the pickup wires along the lower left of the frame and the problem went away. I suspect that old insulation hardens and cracks after 30+ years.1980 XS 11 Special: The King of Kong, 9th wonder of the world. Yeah, I think it's those lousy connections between the hard wires and the soft ones for the pick ups.
Sorry I missed you when you were down here Poprock. Sent you a message but never heard back and didn't push it.
Next time.Greg
