fitted the stainless steel brake lines i bought
from coastguard on ebay, all up was $90 including
international shipping, i also requested the main line
to be 20inches long as im using after market handle bars,
fitted and bled in less than an hour and i couldnt be happier,
the best $90 ive spent on the bike to date and highly recomended.

    • On my last ride, devolped an oil leak front right corner of the cam cover. I had obtained a gasket for the next shim check some time back, just had to do it sooner than expected. 0 change from last time. Also I have a Windjammer III with mount for the 11. It is now in for paint, Yamaha Black Gold with new jammer decal logos, edging, 9 pin electric plugs, windsheld foam and windsheld. The 7" Guide headlight bucket was in very bad shape but the bucket is very simular to early GM cars and trucks and I found a replacement at the swap meet for 3 bucks. Only needed slight mods to fit. The run lights were trashed but I found LED run lights that are an exact replacement for the orignals. It has taken months of work and investment to get to this point with the fairing. If everything goes as planed, I should have it on the 11 in two weeks.

      • What I did to my bike

today was absolutely nothing!.............Cabella's was way more fun to wander around in for a few hours rather than pull a carb bank, re-set floats, etc, etc, you all know the routine. Guess if I rode it more the slight hang-idle and at times a lopey idle would become more irritating.......I'll get'r dun and dialed in before July rally time as I'm runnin' out of excuses......

            • Today I pulled the carbs and air box, trying to track down my power loss issues and to fix the leaking octy. Installed a new airbix with a snorkle (the one I had didn't have a snorkle). Discovered my fuel lines are installed backwards, which I'm guessing is why the octy is leaking. The lines are cut short enough that i can't route them correctly, so tomorrow I will go buy all new lines and clamps, and rebuild the thing from scratch.

              • Found the electrical problem that kept her from shutting down properly. Luckily, it wasn't the switch after all. It was the 3 wire connector plug coming FROM the switch. Apparently, when I cleaned and greased the plugs, some of the di-electric grease got onto the blade connectors inside, and shorted.

Fixed that in about 5 minutes, and ran her up to temperature. Ran the carbs almost dry, and closed the barn up for yet another night. Poor old girl...I swear, when I walked away, I heard her whinny...she wants to run!

                • Dielecteic grease is non conducive, that's why you want it all over everything in the connectors. The only way electricity can pass through it is when it is under pressure between to contacts I.e. the blade and the connector in the other side of the plug.

Like Nate said - Down inside the blades is EXACTLY where the grease SHOULD be. If you removed the grease, I suggest replacing it. That will prevent future corrosion. Dielectric grease cannot create a short.

The only way dielectric grease can provide a short is if impurities have gotten into it as it is specifically designed to be non-conductive. As long as the stuff is clean, it will do the job. And while Nate is correct in application, he is not technically correct, the conduction is not because the grease is under pressure, but because of the metal to metal contact in the connectors. It matters not how much pressure it's under, if the metal doesn't touch, it doesn't conduct, but what it DOES is keep oxygen away from the metal to prevent corrosion from happening.

                      • Well, That's what I thought...I've used it on everything electrical before, and never had a problem...Heck, it's a 33 year old plug...vibration and wear, maybe. The contacts in the battery side of the plug were making contact, in any case, and I fixed that...And yes, I regreased the plug. I also use it liberally on battery cable ends.

                              • I rode my bike. I did nothing to it but add ~$20 of gas and ride all over the place looking for parts and having fun.

I've been fighting with bad computer drives for a while so I took a break. My new Maxtor 1 terabyte drive died and Seagate sent a replacement under warranty. After testing and verifying the replacement drive, my new Hitachi 2 terabyte drive went south and started throwing errors. On the bright side: the time required to test 3 terabytes of disk space is roughy the same amount of time it used to take to set up, test and format a single 20 megabyte MFM drive.

This morning while the computer finished the last of the drive tests I finally got the 'new' Toyota engine out of the car and in the garage:

Then just for grins and giggles I did a 4-wheel brake job on the Chevy Cavalier so it stops now and doesn't make funny noises. I had almost forgotten just exactly how much I dislike drum brakes.
