  • My garage isn't insulated so little goes on this time of year. I did set on her and crank her up to hear her bark and clear her throat. Damn this winter is dragging on!!!

      • today i replaced the plugs on my 70, she had been running on three the last time I rode her 2 weeks ago. Hit the starter and she purred instanly into lfe. I would like to have taken her for a ride, but with the damage to the streets from tuesdays earth quake the roads are coverd with cracks and liqufication silt, so not good for a big road bike.

        • I pulled the stuck front calipers off. Then I moved to a better spot in the garage now that it rolls. Last but the most important I sat on it dreaming of my first ride.

          • I worked on making brackets for different hard bags (correct '80 xs instead of Honda) fiddled a couple hrs. Made one & decided they need to ride a little higher. Almost started over, but just got it all figured out & have to quit to pick up more hardware. It was fun.

            • Fell off

There was one foot of snow in Victoria when I returned from the mainland.
The streets were mostly cleared but there was still some patches of ice and snow. The rear brake was jamming on so I was only using the front.
The front slid out real quick in a patch of snow. Was doing about 5mph max.
Got two guys to help me pick it up and made it the remaining two blocks to my parking area.
Next day I did a better wipe out on my bicycle.

Ouch!! I hope all is ok! Get that rear brake fixed before you ride again - stopping is more important that going... My neighbor managed to break 2 ribs a few weeks ago, just riding a friends NEW bike around the block! Slipped on a patch of salt/gravel and laid it down in a slow turn.

                • Didn't do much to the 1100, but I got new tires installed on the XS850 this weekend, and it only cost me $45 for BOTH tires! Kenda Kruz tires from Cycle Gear. They installed them on the wheels while I wandered the store, for $20/tire extra. I couldn't believe that they only wanted $15 for the front and $30 for the rear! The old rubber I had on there was old and starting to crack on the outside, and when they took them off, they came out and told me that they were REALLY dry-rotted. I can definitely feel the difference in the bike now, even just going around the block!

I've had the Kenda's on both front and rear of my bike. Worked pretty well, and I liked the grip both wet and dry, and the life wasn't half bad for the price. That said, I went to a different rear when i changed it out, and will probably put a matching front on this summer when I do the front. I'd like to see if I can get a little more than a year out of the rear and 2 out of the front. But then maybe with my weight and the bikes weight that might be as good as it gets.

                    • I started the work on my Venturer tank...

Took it apart and sanded - getting ready to prime this week and decide on a paint. I am considering the Durango Rally this summer so I want the larger tank and new paint scheme so I won't have the most boring bike there.

                      • Today I pulled apart all the calipers and cleaned. Put on SS brake lines all around, rebuilt both MC's, installed MikesXS Pods and green monster coils, put in NGK iridiums and polished her up a bit. Took it for a quick spin around the block and everything is on the up and up. Just need to tune it in a little bit now.

The bicycle crash was more severe than Yami, further to fall.
The front brake lever snapped the knob off. The fairing has a scratch but most of it was already there.
The rear caliper is off ( yesterday ) and apart today. I need internal parts, will try and find tomorrow. Next week I will remove the master cylinder for cleaning.
I do not count my two slow speed slide offs as crashes.
                          Thanks for the kind words.

                          • Reassembly has started!

Cleaned the engine cases and put it back in the frame. Couldnt get all the mounts lined back up so its not totally mounted yet. Honed the cylinders. Put the center stand back on and tipped her back on her feet! Starting to look like a motorcycle again!
