Rode in Seacoast Harley Davidson's Ride for the Cure ride. 275 bikes, mostly Harleys, but some others. I reckon I had the oldest bike there. Nice riding weather and scenery, plus it was nice having police escort and getting to run all the red lights.1981 XS1100SH

Washed it and waxed it. Doing the March of Dimes Bikers for Babies ride tomorrow. It's also a police escorted ride. I'm sure there will be plenty o' hogs there and I want her to look nice..."If A equals success, then the formula is: A = X + Y + Z. X is work. Y is play. Z is keep your mouth shut." - Albert Einstein

general maintenence +
well did an oil change and pulled my carbs today , the fj carbs had the needles shimmed so I dropped them back to stock and gave them a once over and sprayed copious amount of carb cleaner through the passages and then canned air , I did pull one float bowl and it was spotless, Then I changed from a pos led tail light that was just not visible , to a cheap combo light from wally world turned out good
side shot
mmmm clean fj1100 carbs(bs38)
I have heard that some people think that these carbs wont flow right , but with the bassani pipe this thing pulls like a raped ape!!91 kwaka kz1000p

Amputated the octy. All the sudden, no more gas fumes, no more fuel dripping off the carbs. No more backfiring on acceleration or decel. Smoother, stronger pulling from idle to redline, no vibration in the handlebar or footpegs, and 39 mpg on the first tank of fuel. I could like this.1980 XS 11 Special: The King of Kong, 9th wonder of the world. Installed new tires and replacement center stand.
Once more BikerPhil provides much appreciated hands-on tutoring, this time on proper tire replacement and balancing. Went to the Suches rally with barely adequate tires and it was time for new ones after 8k miles. Wish I had the new ones at Suches!!!
We then replaced my bent center stand. Don't ask.
Anyway, he's got the process down and we had time for lunch and a 45 mile ride. Inland for about 5 miles, north about 15 miles, east to the coast, and concluding with a fine ride down the beach.
Makes maintenace more palatable when you follow it up with a good ride.1980G Standard, Restored

It was more like
""what did I do with my bike today"
I had to go visit my niece today across the other side of town,
since it was a warm spring day, the bike was the much preferred choice of travel... it was a no barainer...My stock 80 Std.
anyway.... traveling across town on the main roads.
I happen to pull in behind two bikies at a set of lights.
one on a Iron head sportster with drag pipes
one on an older triumph bonniville with a 2-1 slash back
The bonniville was painted in the same colours as my XS!
well there they were, with thier patches ablaze on their backs
the mandatory rev rev of their bikes
and the light changes,
with a roar of unbaffeld exhausts, they were off!
So I just opened up the XS, took her out to 7000rpm in first and second
and left them looking stupid!
It made me remember why the bikies hated Jap bikes,
They are just too goodhttp://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q...e/DSC00009.jpg

Well, this weekend I did the prep work for the 750 FD conversion. Since my FD has a leaking seal, I figure I'd go ahead and take the plunge. Got the washer put in to seal the spooge holes in the FD, and got the spacer cut and onto my spare drive shaft. I figure next weekend I'll go ahead and finish the job, and I'll replace that left rear wheel bearing while I'm in there.
Now I'm waiting as well for my SOFA from TC so I can get it all prepped for my next oil change (I'll get the filter and primer and paint it up ready to go).
Oh, and I noticed my rear tire is getting a bit thin, so I'm looking for something I hope will get more than about 9k miles. The kenda cruiser handles nice and grips well, but the wear is a bit less than I would like, although the front seems to be doing well, I figure I could get 3 rears out of it if I kept putting the same thing on.Cy

Just to rub it in.
I rode it to work, and seriously considered going back to my summer gear. Gotta finish that FD swap, but there is just so much to do and so little time (and most of the "to do" is NOT MC related).
Just gotta figure out how to yank that old driveshaft without a slide hammer. I'm thinking maybe a metal hanger and two hammers?Cy

Wrap some heavy guage wire around it and grab the end with vice grips, then smack the vice grips with a hammer. I've also used a 90 degree hook awl with the grips and hammer.2H7 (79) owned since '89

Swapped out the front rim for a tubeless one and mounted the tire, (the tube seemed to be causing the tire to be out of round) test rode the bike found that it is running rich and not charging the battery it died two miles away from home. Got my brother in law to help me get it home.
Things still needed
1. Fix/clean carbs (stuck float)
2. Replace steering head bearings
3. Fix/replace charging system.
4. Swap out the rear for a 16in rim (then all my bikes except the Venture will use the same size tires)
5. Body work and paint.Ty

Drained the oil from my XJ which I'm restoring. Also removed the wiring harness and all electronics, and got it ready for removal from the frame.
