  • Went for a ride tonight but it was a short one. When I went to highbeam the headlight dimmed for a moment and winked out. I had a flashback of my Norton riding days- uh nights and Lucas electronics. Always said if Lucas made a vacuum cleaner they would finally make something that didn't suck. Anyways made it back home and as I suspected the 10 amp fuse was broken, not melted. I had replaced the fuse box with an ATC while I bringing Monster back to life. I strongly suspect a defective fuse. Plugged in another 10 amp, put a couple more in my pocket and went for a longer ride with no ill effects.

      • it was actually last sunday

But I discovered that the fuse box from TC that takes the larger "new" style spade fuses will also accept the "mini" versions that are now out on vehicles. good because you can carry your spares in less space

dunno how helpful, but it helped me when all i had in 10 amps was a mini. (i blew a fuse dismantling the bulb assembly having left key in ON position)

        • Installed New "leak proof" fork seals. It wasn't as complicated as I thought it would be. Took about 2 hours start to finish.

Also adjusted the plexistar2 windshield. The first and the last time I rode with it installed, It seemed I was stuck between looking over OR through the shield. Pretty frustrating actually. I had to move it up an inch and it's much better now. But when I moved it up I also had to tilt it out just a bit so it wouldn't rub on the "air valve" for the front forks, and now the headlight glares on the shield at the bottom where the edge of the cutout is for the headlight. Not sure how that is going to effect the night time riding. I might have a constant headlight glare back in the eyes. I'll find out I guess.

              • This weekend, I tore my front end apart and painted my Tkat fork brace and the upper tripple tree and bar clamps. Also un-rusted and painted my crash bars. Amazing how nice they look now! I used black gloss caliper paint and baked them in the oven to cure the paint. Not sure how that will affect the durability, but I'm crossing my fingers!

                • Ok, engine is together. Had it all together and then as I continued working at after awhile I noticed that I had the other two cam gear bolts laying in my tools.....valve cover came off and got those bolts in, rechecked the timing since I was in there and its all good! Put the wiring harness back on and pretty much everything hooked back up. Put the last couple engine covers on, unfortunately I had knocked over the box they were sitting on and chipped the paint on a couple, oh well it was bound to happen somehow. Just hung the exhaust on just to get a look at it too.

Not done with the bondo yet but I am getting close to paint.

                  • Finished up a valve adjustment. Also installed a new Metzeler ME 880 rear tire, put in a stainless steel piston in the rear caliper and installed stainless steel braided brake lines. Sounds great. Next step: renew insurance and tag, then ride! 5 month hibernation = severe PMS.

                          • Rode 100 miles, listening to Overture XS11, the sweetest music there is. He used a whole tank of E-free Premium @35 mpg. Oughta be better than that, considering the low speeds involved, but we can work on that. With the new valves, new tire, great brakes, suspension set up just so, 55 degrees, dry, and fairly wonderful over the hills, through the woods, along the rivers and the beach. A good time was had by all.
