Naw.. that's just the approach slab before takeoff!

Seriously though the Yamaha 1100 is no match for the SR500 in the twistys, even today's crotch rockets are hard pressed to stay with me unless the pilot is exceptional.

Again... I have lots of witnesses... several on here that'll vouch for me. Not only would I at LEAST stick with you in the corners, I would smoke you coming out of them. BUT... my XJ does seem to corner better than many of the XS11s I ride with. Or maybe I'm just dumber than they are.. (Shut up Kat.)

The 1300/1400 crotch rockets get me in the straights.. obviously.. but I'll catch them when we get to the corners. I have a buddy that wants me to go run my XJ at a track he rides at... says I would embarrass most of them on this old bike.

So... get a fork brace on your 11, along with some good tires, and I bet it will surprise you if you'll let it. You'll wear out some footpegs and boot soles, but they'll corner better than you give them credit for.

My way is not the highway

I do have a fork brace on my XS11. Did they fix the hinge in the middle of their 1100s with the XJ models?

Remember I said that I get to pick the road, and as we all should know, the rider is 90% when it comes to racing. But don't underestimate my ability to pick a road that will favor my ride and style of riding.

I fully agree with Tod. I have ridden with him many times in the twisties. With good tires and a good rider, these bikes will handle very well in the twisties. Unless you are picking a dirt road, I would put my money on Tod and his XJ any day of the week.

I can't quite keep up with him in the twisties when he really gets going, but I am alot closer than I used to be. I was able to scrub the entire rear tire, no chicken strips at all. Footpegs dragging was common and I even found that I need to relocate my highway pegs that are mounted on my case guards. I had to back off a little when I started grinding the mounts for the highway pegs.

Never once did the bike feel like it wasn't up to what I was asking it to do. It seems a lot of people do not realize just how well these things will handle.

Legend has it that Tod can run down superbikes on a Vespa.

Doug, I haven't seen you ride, so I can't compare, but I think it would be a good race to see. If you are as crazy as Tod, it could get fun.

I have known a few of riders better than me, and Todd may be one of them, but I think Physics is on my side here. Lets do the math:

370 lb bike with 50 hp vs 600 lb bike with 95 hp, pretty close until you try to get them to turn.

The only way to know for sure is to take them to the track. I'm too old to try this on the street anymore.

I get to pick, and it won't be Daytona.

SR500s eat 1100's lunch at the track ~ can I eat yours?

Well I see this thread died out as soon as I mentioned taking our bikes to the track. Wise though, since the SR500 is renown as a racer in the AHMA races held frequently all around the country.

A crazed rider isn't enough when so outmatched as an XS/XJ 1100 is by my little thumper when it comes to a real race track. Dreams of smoking a 350 lb thumper coming out of a turn by raw power in a 500 lb + bike is best done in a bar or on a forum where you can stay home and type about it.

I'm here in Pittsburgh, there's a few road courses around here that hold track days from time to time, bring it out and let's see.

LOL.. Yup.. for 500cc bikes. 250cc bikes are lighter.. yet the 500cc bikes smoke 'em. Same reason a 500cc can't keep up with the superbikes. Not saying you can't ride, but all things equal, the smaller CC's loses.

Wondering what you've done to nearly double the rated HP. You claim 50.. specs say 27.

As for the gloves coming off for a track ride, sounds great. It had nothing to do with a track.. that would be better to keep cars out of my way and I could use the whole road to embarrass you and your mini bike, but the kicker was your CHOICE of tracks.. 1200 miles away.

Find something in the middle at a good time for both of us during the warm months next year, and I'll be there.
