  • Fear me!

I own a chain saw now. GWAHAHAHAHHAHAAH!!!!

Almost as much fun as an XS. Until I figured out cutting up old fallen branches and throwing them in the dumpster is a lot of work.

Anyone want to play with a chainsaw?

I bought my wife a chainsaw last year for Mothers day Well she asked for one!

I told her I would take it out of the box and make sure it worked ok, never having had a chainsaw in my life before I wasn't scared enough of it..

One branch was bouncing around so I held it with one hand while trying to cut it with the other.. Big mistake..

Luckily when it kicked back I shut it off fast, as that what saved my little finger. I calmly shut down the chainsaw, walked into the kitchen and poked around the hole in my glove to see what was left there, I saw a nice white bone with nice saw marks on it and then I promptly fainted on the floor, when I came round my wife had to take me and the 4 kids in the car to the hospital (on a Friday night) to get my finger all stitched together..

The Dr. said I was lucky because the chainsaw was new it left nice sharp bits of flesh to sew up. I did shout a bit though when she was pushing the needle through the tendons.

    Be careful....

      Geez Shappers...

I'll bet she doesn't let you play with her toys anymore... does she?
      (glad it wasn't any worse)

Ivan - you have enough kids to cart all of the branches around...
You have fun cutting... they have fun towing...

          Real Mans Toys

What brand? I've got a Stihl with an 18 inch bar that I bought around 30 years ago. I gave up cutting firewood about 5 years ago when I threw out the log burner and bought a diesel fire. I started the saw for the first time in 5 years in last weekend. A tank full of fresh gas and 1 pull and it fired straight into life.

Stiihl makes good saws, that's what most of the loggers where I grew up use.
Probably the best brand for cutting off unwanted appendages..

What!? With your back yard? Build a little firepit and burn it. Let the kids cook hot dogs over the fire and experience searing their flesh on coat hanger steel like the rest of us when we go to remove the hot dog..

Smores... just sitting there chillin' with a beer... Man, don't waste that wood!

I have the the first one man model McCulloch ever made. They told me it was built between 1949 and 1952. My old Daddy used to cut up trees with it.

It still works, weighs about 50 lbs though.

                  Chainsaws

Spent time in younger days hanging onto those things and swinging block splitters cutting firewood for bucks. Brings back memories of much backache at end of day. Down here they are the most dangerous things that can be bought without getting licence from cops.

                    Don't feel left out

Cueball, England is banning the boyscout knifes on camping trips, so they will get to your chainsaws any minute now.

                      Chainsaws & XS/XJS

Chainsaws are like XS/XJS i have about 10 of them all makes and models. They all run but one, it needs gas tank, it is a Stihl and the hardest one to work on. You have to split the case to get to tank and gas line.
                      Thanks Tom

                          Owners names

Seems odd to me that XS11 owners name their bikes.
I call mine "the XS11" when it's running and "the (expletives deleted)" when it ain't.
But from the posts in this string, chainsaw owners should have names. Hooky, Stumpy, Lefty, Gimpy - - - and just for Shappers, Frodo?
                          Fred Hill, S'toon

Mine is a Poulan 18" "Wild Thing" that I picked up at Lowes. It was only $149, but it cuts like a much more expensive model. I have run a few Husqvarnas that were very good, and I think this Poulan might cut nearly as well. I am guessing it isn't as durable though.

I got tired of mooching them all the time. We have three huge, probably 60 year old maple tress that drop branches every time the wind gets over about 40 kts. Here in KS, that is usually about 3 times a day, so they keep the yard looking like a trailer court.

Tod, I filled a 20 yard roll off to overflowing and got scolded by the driver that picked it up today. It would have been one hell of a bon fire. Not only that, but the county will send a sheriff to write you a ticket if you don't get permission to burn first and they only let you do that when the wind is less than about 5 kts. See paragraph 2.

Kat, when you figure out how to make teenage girls actually work instead of trying to tell everyone else how to do their job, just give me a call. Better yet write it down, so I can publish it, right along with "How to keep politicians honest."

Shappers, sounds like you learned about the 10% rule. I have been burnt by it a few times myself.

Well... I have one who works WHILE she tells the others what to do... does that count?

I think my kids may be anomalies... they actually help out around the house without griping... sort of...

We just have a small 16" chainsaw (luckily, I don't suffer from envy) but it does the job... I call it "This is so much better than having to do this with a saw"

What? too long of a name?
