    The main problem with the windshields like this versus a fairing, is that they are mounted to the forks versus the frame. Sidewinds will affect and push/pull the handlebars and be much more work on a trip.

    As for Maximan's bike, as I heard it, it was bought by a guy that buys things for a very rich individual who then had it shipped overseas somewhere. It's probably sitting in someone's humidity controlled private museum and never being ridden.

          Hi Wolf,
          I think you misinterpret the poll results;
          the greatest percentage of "most ugly" votes went to chromed Harley-Farkles followed by Ivan's cherry bomb mod so that the Vetter fairing was really voted "next to best". And if you consider that every voter had seen those three choices or photos of them at least while a comparative few have met Ivan, the Vetter fairing was actually chosen as the most liked.

              I like the look of the Maxim 1100, but it does a complete 180 with Fairing on it, as well as a windshield.

                One of my parts bikes came with a Harley FLH front fender grafted on to it. You know the one with the little running light in the nose. That was pretty ugly.

                  “What do you guys think about just the clear fairing made by National Cycle?”

                  I’ve had a Plexstar 2 by National Cycle for 5 or 6 years and I wouldn’t ride a freeway mile without it. Some one posted the opinion that a handle bar mounted wind shield tended to blow a rider around by the wind, but that hasn’t been my experience with the Plexstar. In fact I feel much more stable at freeway speeds with it than without it.
                  Plus: looks great!
                  Plus: unlike a Vetter type fairing, you can see through the whole thing so it doesn’t block your view of the road right in front of the bike.
                  Plus: they are relatively inexpensive.
                  As for the ugliest thing ever put on an XS11…

                  Old bikers never die, they're just out of sight!

                  My recently re-built, hopped up '79 Special caught fire and burned everything from the top of the engine up: gas tank, wiring, seat, & melted my windshield all over the front of the bike. Just bought a 1980 Special that has been non oped for 9 years. My Skoot will rise from the ashes and be re named "The Phoenix!"
                  I've been riding since 1959.

                    Definitely a nice windshield for those who would rather not have the bulk of a full fairing. However, I think the Vetter looks downright pretty on these bikes! I only used the Plexistar for 2 weeks before selling it to replace it with a vetter, but while using it, I agree that I had no problems with wind gusts. It allowed a much more relaxed ride at freeway speeds than riding naked.

                    Personally, the ugliest thing I've seen added to these bikes is Header Wrap. It's like an Ace bandage over plastic surgery! It makes the bike look like a mummy...
