(technically, sidecar rigs cannot countersteer while solos must countersteer so you steer a rig like it was a lopsided quad or snowmobile)
That's putting it mildly, Fred! I ran a rig on my '81SH in '94. It was great fun except when you make a sharp right turn, no load in the rig, and get that third wheel airborne, all of a sudden the countersteering comes back in one skip of a heartbeat.

        Hi Randy,
not quite true. Your sidecar must have been way up in the air, right? If you steam round a rightie with the sidecar wheel a steady perhaps 6" or so off the ground it still steers like a sidecar rig. When you are pulling circus tricks with it (typically the guy in the sidecar lifts the sidecar wheel off it's trick mounting and waves it at the crowd, or in your case, having an "Oh Christ!" moment) yes, then the rig is essentially a solo, it steers by leaning, and thus it must countersteer. Now some beginning sidecarists have read in the otherwise excellent "yellow Book" that a rig countersteers immediately the sidecar wheel lifts off and that just ain't so. However, some of them have believed it and in consequence have turned left into oncoming traffic when they needed to turn right.
If I seem to harp on about this, it's that anybody can read these posts and some may get bad advice from them.

          Hi Fred,
Now Espanola is just up the road from Manitoulin Island. The island has been on my list of places to get to on the bike for quite a while.
Chi Chi Maune (?) from Tobermory and there we all are. Let us know when you plan to visit that extended family of yours. In the summer ofcourse

Fred, just relating my experience, albeit because of my in-experience! Of course, I know that years of practice would have made me understand the dynamics better, but I didn't stick with it. It was too alien to me, but it did serve it's purpose for the time.

If I am wearing a half helmet then the wind deflrction in my face is way too much, but if I am using a FF helmet then the wind does not hinder me...mostly its wind in my eyes making them tear...then I cant see...LOL I like the short screen in the Summer as then the ir isnt so bothersome...YMMV

While all the little dead animal parts LOOK good, that pine and willow scrap wood you found, along with the assorted needles and leaves made for a weird smoked taste.

                                Ugliest thing?

                                My business partner!
Old bikers never die, they're just out of sight!

My recently re-built, hopped up '79 Special caught fire and burned everything from the top of the engine up: gas tank, wiring, seat, & melted my windshield all over the front of the bike. Just bought a 1980 Special that has been non oped for 9 years. My Skoot will rise from the ashes and be re named "The Phoenix!"
                                I've been riding since 1959.
