    Hi Russ,
The bike did not hit the log. That is why it is in better shape than you are. Hope those bones are mending.

      Healing, & passing the timei

      Hi Russ,
How goes the healing? About 1/2 done with the neck, I suppose?

And the foot? Will you be preambulating this year?, Plenty of time to let the physical terrorist stretch you back into shape before next spring @ XSeast.

It sounded like this injury you sustained and limited mobility "inconvienience" is tempory. Probably does not seem like it when it goes on day after day... Hope you do not get tooo grumpy. Wish you well.

      Suggestions for passing the time:

You could bolt many shiny chrome pieces on your bike. Harley has a fat catalogue of such things. AND modifying them to fit could take LOTS of time.

Perhaps you could map out & plan some rides for next spring and summer. I happened into a BMW rally at Talihina State park in Oklahoma while looking for XSives there. It may be possible to do a BMW camping rally and an XS/XJ rally the same weekend, if they coincide again.

Perhaps some XSives from the Great White North can offer ideas on what to do while you can not ride or get out like you want to.

I have heard of ice fishing, but I do not know how to do it.

"I have heard of ice fishing, but I do not know how to do it."

        Hi Bruce,
it works like this:- First you need a largish lake that's frozen over at least 8" thick.
Now build yourself an insulated shack as big as will fit in the back of a pickup truck.
The shack will have a properly ventilated catalytic heating system and whatever home comforts your lifestyle requires.
Drive the Truck out onto the frozen lake, slide the shack off and you and your fishin' buddies go in the shack, pop the beer & the booze open, play loud music and get totally wasted. Some purists even open the little hatches in the shack floor, auger 10" diameter holes through the ice and dangle baited hooks into the water.

              Brent,

Neck brace is on until Xmas at least then X-rays to see how it is.

Foot cast comes off middle of Dec. I hope.

Boredom is biggest problem not much to do when you can't drive or walk very far.

Friends and family have been great and get me out every once in a while.

While I complain I know it could have been worse but is not (due in no small part to your intervention at the scene and at the Hospital) so overall I am grateful for what I've still got .

              Looking forward to spring.

                  Hi Russ,
It seems to me that it is about time fopr you to be well, but I see by the schedule that you are still all braced up. Can you walk or drive yet? Getting quick with crutches? Spring time is coming, but it is still a winter away. Any new bike projects, repair or mods going on with you?

I am planning on riding Atlanta to Key west again this January 5 thru 10, 2008. Suggestions? rallies along the way?

                      Brent,

I would come to the Key West Rally if I could figure out a way to hook up my XS engine to a wheelchair.

I'm still in a brace and on crutches. I got a "moon boot" for my ankle the other day so guess I'm healing.

I'm not supposed to drive but I cheat and take a ride to a local boat launch by the CT river each day.

Middle of Dec. to try and walk and 1st of Jan. for neck assessment/X-rays. Hopefully everything will be OK and I'll be working on my bikes in Jan.

I got an exhaust on ebay for $68. Looking for a gas tank or will repair this one.

Here’s some BMW rallies in your area. I don’t know what the “rules” are for attending if any. Most welcome any biker but some are “stuffy”.

better put some wheelie bars and castors on the back, and do not expect great handling.
