    Hey Loho

I am interested in joining the rally coming down from the Bay area in June.
I remember reading last years reviews and thought I saw something about hotels close by.
Any info would be appreciated.Ill keep checking the threads as the time approaches.

    Thanks
    XSeddy

I'll be on my own this year. I will probably camp this time. There ARE motels in Atascadero. This is about a 15 minute ride from the camp site, and the best place for gas. Motel 6 is there, and a few others as well.
Ed and I should be riding down from Santa Cruz Friday afternoon. I would like to leave about 3:00pm, so it's still light as I set up a tent. My plan is highway 101 South to go down, and Highway 1 north to come home. The Bay area riders could probably meet us in Salinas, and we could ride down from there!
      LoHo,
There is a dirt/paved road from highway 1 South of Big Sur, to Highway 101 South of King City. It would probably be a NICE ride for Saturday, as it will be the coast and the valley.

Ray, I was looking at that road on the map, and another member mentioned that it was a decent ride. I was thinking we'd ride up 101, cut over, and ride 1 south to a lunch destination.

For those worried about food, I'll bring Friday's dinner, Saturdays breakfast and dinner (we'll lunch on the road), then Sunday's breakfast. We will pass the hat as we've done in years and it's worked out well enough.

Keep an eye on the Member's Lounge and the Rallies for more info.

Ray, are you looking at the Nacimiento-Fergusson road out of Jolon that runs through Fort Hunter Liggett to the coast? I've been over it quite a few times in my old van when I lived in Salinas and they still had tanks running around on the road. It was a decent enough road back then... for tanks.

I can make a run up there to see if it's XS-able and what kind of shape it's in now. I think they got rid of the tanks but I'm not sure about the Bradleys.

LoHo.......Talked to Sandy and have a cabin that is close to or near the one you have reserved. She said they have and are moving some of the cabins so they are in a closer proximity of the restrooms/showers. They now have two cabins left for that time period, so if any XS rider wants one, should make res. now! If anyone wants to look at a map of the campground, Sandy said go to www.smlcamp.com Apparently a tour group has reserved alot of the cabins for this time period. It's ALL good....ride safe.....CU'all in June!

I'll have to check out my tent and make sure it's in good shape and determine just how I'm gonna pack everything (hey, I need all this time to plan the packing ). As things get closer we'll have to see about meeting up on the way down (I don't know who else from the north-central valley are going down yet).

I'm really looking forward to meeting the other members at the rally (and maybe along the way as well). We'll see how big the a$$ on this thing gets by the time I get everything tied onto the back.

I know, it's poor form to followup-to yourself but I made a couple of maps for different routes to the coast.

195 miles and about 5 hours via Nacimiento-Fergusson Rd

125 miles and about 3 1/2 hours via San Simeon Creek Rd

If anyone wants to try the Nacimiento-Fergusson Rd I'll run up there between the storms this weekend and make sure it's passable.

Hey Scott, thanks for that info, although the two maps are the same. I was thinking of that Hunter-Liggett road as the best choice. Go up 101, cut over, get a dose of the California coast, and have lunch in Cambria or Morro Bay, then back to camp. I also wanted to head into the hills to the east by way of Poso Road, which makes a nice foothill loop, perhaps an afternoon ride on Saturday or an morning ride on Sunday.

There are two different routes and maps but you have to open the links in a separate page/tab/window/instance/whatever or Google Maps will overlay the first map you view on top of the second map and they'll be scrambled together until you clear the cache and restart the browser. Stupid Google tricks....

The Pozo loop around the lake would be fun and the Pozo Saloon is just past Pippin Corner, too.

I was on my way up to check the roads this morning but I found a small nail in my front tire when I did the pre-ride check. So much for a Sunday ride. I think the shop is closed Monday so it'll be a few days before the bike's ready to go again. I think I'll head up there in the Toyota tomorrow instead of watching the rain and staring at my bike.

Looks like I'll be attending, probably without SWMBO so my question is this for those that stayed last year, do the tent sites have plenty of trees on/around them? When solo I prefer to hammock camp, my hammock packs smaller and is much more comfortable then any sleeping pad or airbed I've found, the only problem is that it requires two trees capable of holding up an adult within 20 or 30 feet of each other. I'd hate to get there and find no place to put it up...

Glad your able to attend! Lots of trees in the camp area. Should be able tie-off, just not directly on campsite. Heck........worse comes to worse, can string it between a couple XS's! Show up.....the rest is minor detail!

I held off on the trip this week and got the front tire on the bike fixed, now it's raining again. I'm not gonna win this contest... I'll call or just stop by the campground tomorrow when I head up to check the road and see if the group campsite is available again.

What's everyone doing for camping this year? Last year most made their own reservations and barely squeaked by the minimum number for the group site.
