Hey kids, I've opened a new thread for the 2011 CaliRally, if you'd like to wander over there. I'm good to go this year and will resume host duties lest you realize you don't need me.

    Central Cal Rally

Vicki and I are planning on the mid-cal rally for June. July is always iffy for us, because the gathering of the clan is usually in the July/August window (always depending upon other people's vacation schedules (two nurses and a kindergarten teacher!). It was gorgeous these last few days here in the south and I couldn't ride due to eye surgery. (Everything is OK) Vicki actually went out and rode, briefly, without me.

    Looking forward to June!

    Ralph

Hah! Ray, if Columbo had my personality that bike would be out working every delicate, feminine Ducati and gorgeous 'Guzzi from here to Italy and back!

Alas my bike is not blue (everyone knows the blue ones are fastest). Judging by the ... absurd repairs I've had to do over the last few years along with the unmistakable signs of both competent workmanship and idiotic kludges in its past, this bike stuck its brake calipers in both of its engine side covers, chanting, "Lalala! Can't hear you! Lalala!" for a leetle too long at the factory; probably smothered on the assembly line when the foreman wasn't looking.
It's obvious all the way down to the fine patina of NEED! etched into its very bones underneath the fine metallic luster of its Corpse Gray and Mold Silver paint job.

No, it's not for sale, are you mad!?

So I'm going riding with 'Roo this weekend and, yes, it'll be a blast! If y'all are going to be around I should be able to make a run up to Santa Cruz some time next month when I finish the bike and car projects.

Next year: To Colorado! And beyond!

If a bike could throw itself down kickstanding the ground and flailing its fairing or just holding its air cleaner until it turned blue this bike would be the one to do it.
Hey Scott, isn't your bike BLUE?? I always thought the bikes took on the personality of the owner. You know, a little cracked but still trying to get buy. (OK, so I resemble that remark as well.....)
Ed was back in the saddle like he had not been off! It was great to see him ride once again! The good news for me was the excuse to ride the black bike. I've been putting miles on the new commute vehicle, so the XS has been sitting for the past two weeks.
I WILL try and see what I can do for Colorado. I may NOT be on an XS, as I've not got a good long range machine at the moment, except for the BMW....

    Needy!

Ed, I am so glad you're out and about again; enjoying life with 1st and 2nd gear!

Brant, for no apparent reason, just sitting in the garage, the right-hand fairing lower cracked again where you glued it. I cleaned off the glue and made a v-groove in the inner side of the break then filled it with JB Weld. I let it cure for a couple of days before putting it back on so it's good to go until the next round of neediness.

If a bike could throw itself down kickstanding the ground and flailing its fairing or just holding its air cleaner until it turned blue this bike would be the one to do it.

    First

Wow! So this thread is being re-cycled for a 2011 rally? Cool!
I'm up to 120 lbs now, which is about where I was BC (before cancer.) I couldn't handle being cage bound any longer so I dusted off the special and got Ray to ride behind me so the Man couldn't see my expired tags I registered it “non-op” and let my insurance expire in an attempt to discourage me from riding it until I got my strength back: didn't work.
We rode up “The 9” as you So. Cal. riders would say: right out the apartment driveway and 6 miles north up a curvy 25 to 40 mph 2 lane black top through the Redwoods. A couple of Big Trees are so close to the road that they have chunks of bark missing where trucks got a little too close to the edge.
Our destination was the Log Cabin Tavern on the southern city limit of Felton. After a couple of brewskies and some pleasant conversation with other bar patrons Ray and I headed back.
My brothers and sisters of XS: it felt so-o-o-o-o GOOD!
I hope I can get the things done to the bike (I've never named “it”) that I would like to get done by the next rally. I look forward to seeing everyone again.
I've got a couple of pics that I never got around to posting after the last rally I hope to post them soon now that I know I have your attention!
    Special Ed

    Rockies Rally

Well...........sounds like you'all are gonna be headin' for some fine mountain scenery riding and some excellent smooth mountain twisties.............soooooooo............it's on!..........Colorado San Juan Mountains Rally. Will start a seperate thread in the rally section. Also will be getting a hold of Tim and Sheri Holt, the owners of UnitedCampground and long, long time frinds of mine for reservations of large tent sites, which by the way are all manacured like golf greens. From what I've heard so far, could expect from 5 to 20+ riders, so I will give Tim a heads-up to make sure we all can hang our tents, scoots, trailers, etc.

I might do the central Cali rally again in addition to the Co rally. I didn't have to take any time off work for the Cali Rally, so I could do that again as long as the location doesn't move any further away from me. I'll just leave friday afternoon like I did last time.
