      Hi Billy,

I just knew I was going to see you here on that new Venturer this year?

Sorry to hear about your very nice XJ. Hope it is fixable. No excuses will be tolerated for next year. Take care.

Pictures are always nice. I have witnessed a LOT of people taking pictures all weekend. What we have to do now is figure out how to show them to everyone?

I can't get the pictures onto Photobucket so I put them in a shared Onedrive folder. These are straight from my camera with no editing or organization so they're full-sized:-

I'm going to ask the awards recipients to gather for a group shot this morning but I may have to do interesting things with a hammer and sand.

I'm trying to move pictures from the Camera Roll folder to the shared XSSE_2017 folder and OneDrive doesn't want to do it, the Iron Horse WiFi is slow and overloaded, I'm falling asleep.

Thanks to T.C. and Mike Pitman, I have a new left-hand crank seal and a tube of sealer to glue it in the case. I've rented the cabin for and extra day to let the sealer set up so it doesn't get blown out of the case when I hit ~5K RPM.

Bonz, the tip of the cam lobe tip is flattened, not just pitted.

Trivia like the history of Alanreed in the Panhandle is interesting.

The community was named for Messrs. Alan and Reed, partners in the contracting firm that laid out the present townsite for the Choctaw, Oklahoma and Texas Railroad in 1900. An earlier name for the place was Gouge Eye, in honor of a memorable saloon brawl.[1]

it looks like the Iron Horse has been feeding Y'all real well.

                          • A great time in North Carolina

                            Vintage Yamaha Rally Friends,

We had a great time at the rally and hope to make next year even better. We has a great time seeing our old friends and making several new friends.

There were several people attending for the first time and I believe we all did a great job of welcoming them! Next year we should anticipate even more!

Although we clearly dominated the Iron Horse Lodge, there we could still hear the occasional sound of a Harley.... Let's get everyone to make their reservations early and encourage all other Vintage Yamaha Enthusiasts to attend. Personally, I don't want to hear ANY Harleys next year..... 9/28 - 9/30!

                            • Made it home report

                              Ditto,

Want to thank Kurt, Mike P, JetMech Marty, and any others I possibly left out for putting the Rally together, making T-shirts, advertising, hosting, etc.!

Godzilla had fun roaring all over the NC/Tenn. mountains. The Dragon was no match for the wrath of Godzilla! Yes, fun times were had by all, and no wrecks or major breakdowns. My repaired crankshaft seal, and 1st gear re-dremmeling held up great, no drips, runs, errors. However, these crankshaft seal failures seems to be a small epidemic. Aside from Scott/3Phase's seal, ViperRon's left seal also started weeping during yesterday's run, it was also a previous repair with the LIPLESS style seal. After the ride, I rode up to his lodge/parking space, and we took off the timing stuff, and checked it out. The alumi-stick stuff apparently wasn't holding up, it easily scraped off of the crankcase with a screwdriver. We cleaned the area with Carb cleaner along with scraping as much of the old hard sealant we could get off of the crankcase and the edge of the seal. We then mixed up a batch of J_B Weld and applied a nice layer around the seal and crankcase, and hoping it will hold enough to keep it from leaking on his trip home to northern VA.

Anyways, happy to report that Godzilla got me home safe and sound without incident or problems aside from putting in a 1/2 quart of oil. I did my original 1179 rebuild some 17 years and 25+K miles ago, so I guess burning a little oil is possibly now normal with some of the wear. However, I did use WallyWorld 20-50 instead of GTX, and I don't recall needing to add oil on a couple of years earlier. I did have to add oil last year, but that was due to the crank seal leak! Also made it home in what seems like record time compared to previous trips, left at 6:30AM, 15 minute breakfast/fuel break at 8:30 in Asheville, stopped for 30 minutes for lunch/fuel in Durham, and arrived home at 4:15pm some 450 miles later. Guess when you're able to do ~75mph on ALL Highways, the miles roll away pretty quickly!

Okay, hoping everyone else gets home without any problems. Hope to see everyone next year, but I might have to win the HAULEY award then.

                              • Thanks to Marty, Don (sharing his cabin), Kurt and his indomitable wife Nancy, T.C. for the spare seal, Mike for some good RTV sealer, I forgot who gave me a spare 1157 front running/turn lamp, and everyone else for beng here! Man,vwhat a week it been!

I'm all packed up and ready to roll out whenever I get up tomorrow, I'm going to Dad's first and he's seventeen different kinds of excited. My phone can't call because I have AT&T but it's all Verizon up here and the Iron Horse WiFi keeps dropping out but that'll clear up in the morning.

It's been fun watching the new folks arrive. A Ducati got put on a trailer and sent home for a no-start but his buddy arrived a few hours later with an identical one. As usual there ar a whole herd of Harley's helping the autumn leaves fall off the trees but it's still a relaxing night. I'm going out for dinner in a few and my bike's running good again.

I very gently ran a 0.003" feeler gauge around the crank and under the left-hand seal this morning and at last for now it's stopped leaking.

I looked at the XSSE folder I used to share pictures and apparently OneDrive starts over when it loses synch. There are a bunch of duplicates now from last night and the day before, I'll have to straighten out that mess later.
