I finished tuning, #4 intake was too tight and the cam lobe looks bad, that was my noise. I synch'd and set the mixture screws and while I was doing that a bunch of XSives got here. The bikes are all out front but they're nowhere to be found. Hmm....

Meh, I have a half dozen good cams at home, I'll just have to deal with it for now. Folks have been rolling in all afternoon and it's getting lively, just have to wait and see if the Iron Horse lights off the campfire tonight.

Man, I don't know WHY you always have issues. My bike has NEVER let me down no matter how far I venture.
And there have been times it SHOULD have.

Need any shims Scott?

Slept in a bit this morning, then got all packed up and left around 9 am, made it to Boone, NC around 5pm, took a little detour from the BRP, was on Hwy 21, thought it was 221, and then had to let the GPS take me the SHORTEST route to Boone. I found Xmas tree heaven...didn't know there were so many tree farms out here! Godzilla is running great. Still have some ~250 miles of BRP to get to 19 and finally to Stecoah, hope to roll in around 3pm.
See you all tomorrow. Sent in my menu choices for Friday/Saturday, thanks MARTY!

Greg, the cam's bad but I didn't know it. I've had to go up two shim sizes since the rebuild and the ticking got worse.
Here's a OneDrive link to the #4 intake lobe, it's messed up. I forgot to check the cams while I had the engine apart, my bad. I'm seriously considering setting the POS on fire and taking a plane home or buying another bike.

I have lots of cams and shims if you can limp it back to Oklahoma.

Thanks, Greg, I'll see how it goes during the rally and then decide if it gets cams or combusted.

I could pull the intake can from my spare bike this morning before I leave and bring it to you. I just need to know by 8am. We are rolling out about 9 and moseying the fun way from Charlotte.
I appreciate the thought, seriously, but hang on to your cam.
I might be looking at changing the head if the valve bucket pocket is damaged from getting slapped around by the cam lobe. At least now I have an inkling how the original crankshaft #2 rod journal got scored, cam lobe facing metal is some hard stuff, if a few pieces got past the filter they'd do some damage.

Scott, considering the distance you have to travel to get home, I'd SERIOUSLY consider changing that cam AND associated shim. Looking at the link you posted, that cam can start flaking off material causing an even MORE 'flat' cam than already is and cause additional bearing metal contamination. JAT to consider, as I'm sure you already know.

Brant, it's getting ridden 'till it don't ride no more.
I put a new set of Dunlops on it this afternoon, an Elite 3 rear and some namless Dunlop front, so I'm not running squared off tires that are almost bald in the center.
When I get to my dad's in Kentucky, I'll see about getting another cam. Unfortunately, I can't just phone home because neither one of my brothers are mechanically 'ept, with my continued good fortune I could wind up with a 2H7 exhaust cam instead of a 3H5 intake.
