Anticipation of a great time carries the day!

Hi y'all! Can't wait to see everyone again for this fantastic rally!
We're actually heading down to Sky Valley GA this coming weekend for a "primer week" of riding before the rally starts. FINALLY got some vacation time wrangled out of the engineering firm I now work for! (retired from the State gig in March).
Really looking forward to seeing everyone again! Great rides, wonderful fellowship and good food & lodging make for a perfect vacation!
Be safe riding and God Bless - see you in a couple weeks! BTW snagged an 07 Buell Lightning XB12STT mid summer so gonna try that one out on the twistys!

Hi Scott,

If you run out of options, drill some small holes at the end of the cracks and chamfer (counter sink) them on both sides. Should stop the crack from growing.

Agree getting excited. I look forward to seeing you again. I expect you will enjoy the lightning in the twistys. Not much luggage space though.

I made the run from Phoenix to San Marcos this afternoon/evening; sitting in Denny's after dinner and catching up before I head back to the hotel, then see Soccermike in the manyannah.

I made it back home this afternoon after visiting Mike. A little over 1,000 miles, very hot, lots of rain but almost no drama because the bike ran like it should. The gas mileage is still high 20s and low 30s. (shrug) I don't know what's up with that but after I change the oil and fix a few things I'll be back on the road again. I may skip the northern leg to Washington, the rally's next week and I'm running out of September.

I'm at all not happy with Tourmaster.

One of the small retaining/positioning straps tore right out of the front of the right-hand bag. These are the new warranty replacement bags for my other new saddlebags that tore the main straps during the Colorado rally and this was their first trip anywhere except to Walmart for tube socks and beef jerky.

Yesterday as I was getting ready to leave Phoenix, one of the adjustable Velcro "belt" straps tore out of my new Tourmaster riding pants.

All of the straps that tore are single-stitched when they should have been double-stiched and there are a few other high-cheese-factor issues I don't like about their gear so that's it for me with Tourmaster.

Sorry to hear you are having trouble with straps etc. I have had good service from my Tourmaster riding gear.

Had new Tires fitted to day. Dunlop Elite 4 biasply. Blurb sounds good and all the reviews were positive so we will see. Plenty of $$$ so they better go some distance

A bit of route planning and load the GPS then I will be all set.

Early start on the day's work

Phil, it looks to me like Tourmaster is starting to ride on their name.

I have a twenty-year-old Tourmaster bag for the luggage rack that came with Columbo and it's still in great condition. I have it on the XJ11 right now after replacing the integrated mounting bungees but there's no problem with the zippers, straps, or stitching. The P.O. lost the rain cover but the inside of the bag still stayed dry in the rain on the Phoenix trip.


Well, the oil's been draining overnight, now it's time to refill the engine and get the broken riding gear ready to go for Stecoah!

Blue Ridge Parkway was closed Monday for Irma.

Today, some of it is open, but the section fom Asheville to Cherokee is closed to clean up downed trees and debris:





With 9 days left, should be OK for our Rally........

I forgot about the MENU for the Iron Horse, yes we need to make choices!

Well, went in to work late this morning and I only had to work a few hours today, got off around 3pm. I had stopped by my local service station with my friendly inspector to see if he was doing them and if he would have time this afternoon when I was to get off work. The Mech there said he was on vacation and not due back until Monday! So...I dropped by my local Chevy dealer(bought the SWMBO's car there a few years ago), and checked to see if they were doing inspections....yep, all day till 6pm. They had done the inspection on Godzilla last year because my service station was FULL that day and I had NO TIME before last years rally.

So...came home, changed, and took the bike to the Chevy dealer. The fellow(covered in tattoos) walked up to me and said he had to DRIVE my bike into the inspection area. But he did alright, and after a few moments once several other mechs gathered around to look Godzilla over, they motioned for me to come inside the garage/inspection area. The inspector along with 4 of the 5 mechs were also bikers, mostly Harleys and V-rod, but one had a Yamaha. I had to explain about the mini race alt Mod, as well as describe the mix mash of parts, what year/model of bike it was, etc.! It didn't hurt that it was painted Synergy Camaro Green! The fellow passed Godzilla, and so I'm now totally legal to ride.

Just have a few minor things to do, adjust the brake pedal throw, reposition the gear shift lever, zip tie the rubber clutch lever cover, put the windscreen on with LARGE RUBBER WASHER...don't want to pull a 3Phase with it! ;P Put the back rest on. The Saddlebags, and trim down my tool box a bit to cut some of the weight by leaving out some of the tools, like most the standard size wrenches/sockets, perhaps only 1 bottle of engine oil, etc.! But since I'm riding alone until I get to Stecoah, still want to have enough tools to perform essentially ANY roadside repair I may need to do to get it home.

Visions of last years events are still haunting me! But hopefully I've addressed the things that partially failed last year, and that it will be a flawless and trouble free trip....however I have to replace my gremlin bell! It was broken anyways as evidence of my trials and tribulations , but it got squished when Godzilla collapsed the 1" square tubing cruise pegs a few weeks ago!

Looking forward to seeing everyone again, and running the twisties with gusto!
