Where ever the Rally is, I'm sure it will be a great one, and I WILL be there. The only word of warning that I'm giving is that I may not be on my XS this time and that I'll probably take my 'Wing for a change.
If the Rally is in Southern WV, then I can do some scouting.
If the Rally is in Va., then I may have some input on routes and their conditions.
If the Rally is in Pennsylvania, ------- best ask someone else!
The last time I was riding through Penn. was around 1980 or 1981 [could have even been in '82] and I rode my '78 CB 750-K through Altoona to get to Lewisburg, PA. So, I'm VERY unfamilar with that state. Besides, with MartyA and Ralph being state residents; we should have two walking encyclopedias with a wealth of knowledge! Not to mention a great time.
But as far as my vote, I suppose I'm still partial to Virginia and then West Virginia. And yes, there IS some great roads in the Roanoke and Harrisonburg areas, to name a few in VA.

P.S. I'm sure my friend Keith will be attenting also; regarless of where the Rally will be held. As for Atalay, who knows; he's still single and has been chasing the ladies lately! His poor FJR has been sitting neglected! What a shame!!

      it IS a bit early..

but like i said in the post about a national rally, if the girl is on the road for memorial day, i'm up for it! seems i always plan routes on where relatives live (the visit justifies the trip to my co-pilot) and my sister will be moving to WV in March. plus, northern WV is only like 3 hours away or so for me.

                Hi All,

W.V. or VA sounds good to me. South is always better than north at that time of year just not too far south as to rule out the folks from the great white north.

As for Cops, I got a ticket in W.V. on my way to Ohio. However, it was on the superslab.

21 year old Cop, 57 year old rider. What's wrong with this picture? No respect for your elders I'd say.

                See you in May!

                    from Nova Scotia

You can make the ride to WV, but you'd best take your motorcycling seriously. It's a pretty good long ride requiring maybe two weeks of vacation.

                      how far?

Caribou. Maine to Elkins WV is 1042 mi 17hrs 29min at posted speed. (HD ride planner does not show Canada) If you went by way of GA you could add another 1000 miles to the trip.

Marty is right, could take 2 weeks, p probably longer after converting to kilometers.

                      Happy motoring,

                        hmmm

not sure why this is a 2 week trip, other then just for comfort. certainly its a 2 day drive, 4 for round trip, and i wouldn't want to go that far if i wasn't planning on spending some time at the destination, but 2 weeks? more to the point, if your riding your XS, then isn't the ride the point of the trip? that sounds way more philosophical then i intended. seriously, whoever said life is about the journey clearly rode an XS11.

can you tell its a very slow day here at work?

                          Slow at work, lucky you!

For those newish to the East Rally, we typically find either very interesting sights, and / or, if I'm part of the decision or I'm allowed to offer my 2 cents, TWISTY roads. So you can take two days of boring 4-lane to get to the rally and 2 days to get back, but be ready once you get here! We will have 2 days of fun.

We have fun regardless of how many miles we do put on the bikes, even a rainout is a blast, but be ready and bring good tires.

We still have a month or two to finalize anything, so I am still sitting in the wings waiting for offers / suggestions / locations / etc.

Preliminarily, and not cast in stone yet, we are looking at Pineville, WV neighborhood. It appears that this area - with some routes into KY and VA - has the highest density (or nearly) of the twistiest roads.

Now how about some comments on that...

I spent two and a half days travelling to the last WV location and three days getting back to Atlanta. Just about the whole thing was twisty. It's all about the ride. We ride to ride some more!

The people are pretty cool too!

WV is my favorite when considering folks coming from points north. East TN is awesome, as is western NC and north GA. All twisty, all the time. I enjoy these places on my way to WV. WOO HOO!

But I meant how about comments about some place else to go, someone else having ideas on routes somewhere, or yeah OK WV is fine get on with it, things like that.
