Lake Placid is very nice, alot of hotels, nice rides, home to the olympic training center and the 1980 olympic's,r maybe Lake George,There holding Americade this week up there, the worlds largest motorcycle touring rally. I'm going on Saturday, will post pic's this weekend in the ride section.I figure if it's good enough for 2500 touring bikes,it should fit our needs.

I know some great roads in the Adirondaks, but we will likely be there in 2014
Note the Grangers have indicated they might host another NY state rally in 2014.
If the group wants to go there twice in a row that's fine but I was thinking someplace else for 2013.
Just a thought, if we consider a place we have been years before consider that there will be new members along who may not have been there, and we can make different routes on roads we didn't ride the first time.
More suggestions?

we've not had a rally in NH...Maine CT Mass or NJ...well theres nothing really good in NJ...WVA is closer to me and thats fine too...its not going to matter how far as I plan to trailer the XJ. As I just cant get it there any other way...getting too old to ride it comfortably...but it needs to be at the rally... Interesting discussion about the value of these old bikes and their availability on the road...as evidenced by the last XSEast rally the XS and XJs' are becoming less frequent in attendance...so all of us who own these need to bring them to the rallies. Whats the point of having a vintage bike rally if none show up? Doesnt bode well for future rallies.

It is the old bike that brought us together, it is our friendship that keeps us getting together, even when the old bike is long gone.

I agree - personally I would stay away from those tiny urban crowded red-light liberal northeast nanny states. NJ, CT, RI, DE, even most of MA & MD are way too crowded and that makes it tough to keep 30 bikes together. Their whole method of roadways use is to get as many cars as possible on as many parallel lanes as possible going as fast as they can get away with, just to get to the next town.
NH & VT have nice neighborhoods, as does VA. PA, and WV. ME might be a bit too far east?

How about the Gatlinburg, TN area? The Smoky Mountains are really pretty, though I've never ridden the roads on a bike.

Folks don't have to wait till 2013 to catch this NC beauty. XS Southeast is Sept 28, 29, 30th at the IronHorse Motorcycle Lodge in Stecoah, NC.
We just started a facebook page with some pics: http://www.facebook.com/XSSoutheast
Don't have exact Routes & Stops just yet, but normally we do ride The Dragon, Cherohala Skyway, Blue Ridge Parkway etc. at some point during the weekend. Also evaluating US441 through the Smoky Mtn Park with run up to 6,643 ft Clingman's Dome (its not Pikes Peak but still scenic). However trying to do that with 25+ bikes with weekend car traffic becomes futile. Great ride if we can get there early or late in the day. Rally draws both XS11 group and some southeast Vintage Japanese bikes/riders.

STL to Gatlinburg, TN: 526.7 miles
STL to Stecoah, NC: 543.2 miles
+16 more miles = access to some awesome motorcycle roads. Plus get great ride on The Dragon US129 on the way to Stecoah, plus can take loop over Cherohala Skyway to Tellico Plains, TN or over Smoky Mtn Park road into Gatlinburg, TN and Townsend, TN back to the Dragon and Stecoah on a day ride. The start of the Blue Ridge Parkway in Cherokee, NC is only 35 miles from Gatlinburg, TN. Avoids the more crowded Pigeon Forge / Gatlinburg car magnet area.
Like you said though, a great area with some good scenery any season be it fall for XS SE or May for XS East!

I think Bug was being a little honery, yes, that area of NC is basically the same as Gatlinburg Tn. There are some cool roads there, I find anywhere with alot of elevation changes has some great curvy hilly roads.
Still battling with the ole Banshee since XSEast, that B*^&ch is still fighting me. Otherwise, that would be a nice ride.

Yeah, I was.
I'm just hoping it doesn't get pushed into NY, as that would definitely be too far for me on one of these trips.
