friday night is a meet and greet Saturday will start with breakfast at the red apple resturant around 7:30 am with the ride beginnig at 9:00 from the parking lot of the red apple.

Poplar Grove IL??????

Which Poplar Grove you comming from? There are 2 in Il. one that I know is up by rockford and Mapquest is showing one near the QC. If it is the one up by Rockford I was really close yo you wednesday night. I took my wife on the old XS to Genoa had supper than came home. What time should I be looking for you and the misses?

Yah you drove right buy. I live in the candlewik lake compound. Next time stop by( if the gestapo lets you in), always looking for a good reason for a ride and a cook out. Not sure of the time. Because of work hopping to leave the house by nol ater than four pm. I might be able to show up earlier if you need help. Let me know 847-302-6583.

Sounds like between 4 and 6 is when everybody should be pulling into town. When you Xsive riders make it to Rock Falls the Super 8 is just off the interstate at exit 41. I am just 4 blocks or so past that. give me a call and I will ride down and meet you all at the super 8. My # is (815) 994 - 1815. I have to work until 10 am friday and will be gettting stuff ready the rest of the day. There is plenty of food so come Hungry. See you all friday!

Northwestern IL Rallie

Day one - Meet and Greet

I took off work early to get everything ready before anyone showed up. However, before I could turn around Steve and Mariann showed up on their 78 Standard. I thought I still had 2-3 more hours.

Let the party begin........
Before long Bob cruises into town. WOW, there are more people here already than I originally expected. Within the first discussions with Bob I found out that Brent was coming all the way from Georgia!

Now the party is going....on without me!!!!!!

Bob received a call from Brent, and he is broke down 3 hours away. The front U-joint went out on his 80 special. So the truck came out and the spare parts came in handy, "THANKS JOHN". Bob and I went to the rescue. We left around 6:30pm and didn't arrive back until after Midnight.

In the meantime - my loving wife took over the activities. The food was good I was told. BBQ pork chops, baked potatoes, and salads were on the menu. Don't forget the Beer. (Thanks to the neighbors). No one went away hungry.

Just in time to eat - Steve went to pick up Dan to lead him to the fun.

By 6am we will open the mechanic shop to work on Brent's bike for the ride.

Holy COW - 1:30am???

day 2 xsive Il.

I woke up at 5:30 thinking bob and brent was going to be over to fix brents bike. I was so shocked that brent rode his xs all the way here with me being new to this site. I found out really quickly that flexibility is a must.

Saturday morning started out around 7:30 with Bob and Brent riding in on Bob's bike. Followed shortly by Steve and Mariana with Dan just behind them. Steve and I went to work on the doner (Steve diong all the work) while Brent and the rest worked and stupivised on his bike. My 10year old son even got into the action telling people what to do and taking photos. The switch only took about an hour and Brent'sbike was back upand running. We then headed to the Friendship house for breakfast. After a great breakfast We Started up all 7 bikes and started out. 5 XS's 1 suzuki intruder and 1 goldwing. I had alot of stops planned out and we made our way to each of the stops. After the stop in Savanna I let the Goldwing take the lead on science ridge road until we hit route 20 then I took back over. During this time I moved to the second to last and enjoyed the ride. While going around one of the curves I was going a little fast and already riding the white line I went off into the shoulder. I still don't know how I kept the bike upright but somehow I was able to get it back onto the road and finish the ride to our next gas stop. We then went thought Galena and on out to New Diggings. Of course I had the map and got us lost. After a nice man in one of those hybred cars stop to point us in the right direction I got us lost again. We happened to be at a little place called the chatterbox. It was a bar and grill and it was about 3 so we went ahead and had supper/lunch while I looked the map over. The food was outstanding. Who whould have thought a hole in the wall place would have food that good. we then headed 4 milenorth to wisconsin. The only thing on Brent's mind was that he needs Cheese. before long we were back out of wisconsin and heading twords debuque Ia. Brent still didn't have his cheese. We had stopped and decided not to do the ferry because I wasn't sure what time the ferry stopped running. What time is dusk anyhow? We also decided to just stay on the Illinios side of the Mississippi River. OK cool I can handel that. Not!! I got lost again and we crossed the Mississippi. Quick change of plans and we went down 52 and 67 with very little ( one ) stop for gas. I then lead us strait to Clinton Ia. with no problems until me and the 2nd bike went througha stoplight at route 136 and Steve (who lives nextdoor) and the rest of the pack sat in confusion. I didn't know there was a bridge back across the mississippi. After they caught us Steve took over and took us twords home we stopped at a wooded bridge and then home. 227.7 miles is what the goldwing had on his counter. It was a good day. later that night we all went to the bar to unwind.
