Thanks for the tire recommendation everyone. She’s back on the road now after many years of sitting. Put around 150 miles yesterday. My buddy took his MT10 out and the Xs11 kept up with ease. He was shocked by how well it rode even with a 43 year tech gap.

Yeah, the first HD that could turn a 1/4 mile faster than a stock 1978 XS1100 was the V-rod, and Porsche designed the motor for that bike! If you REALLY want to have some fun with your buddy, tell him you both put the bikes in high gear at 40mph, and then give it throttle. when he catches up with you you can smile!Ray Matteis

I actually got on my MT10 for a bit and that thing pulls hard. I’ll test out 40mph pull but I’m 99% sure he’s got me beat.
Everyone is great on this forum. Will keep you posted on the bike. Planning on doing a break drain and fill next and redoing the wheel bearings after this season.Comment

Top gear roll-on from 40 to 80 mph is approximately 10 seconds for an XS1100SG.Marty (in Mississippi)

Personally I prefer to rev as opposed to lug an engine. It'll pull fine at 40mph in 5th but if you start with second gear at that speed you'll have more fun getting up to 80.1980 XS1100G

My 40 to 80 in 5th remark is only to show how much torque this machine has. It's not how I typically drive it..Marty (in Mississippi)

My take on the "high gear roll on" is because all these high reving sport bike cannot put them in high gear at 40. That makes me an instant winner! I'm usually 3rd or 4th around town, as it's 25 to 40mph.Ray Matteis

Well, if it's difficult to push the bike around in the garage, then it's too much drag. Yes the bike is heavy but should roll without too much effort.2H7 (79) owned since '89

An easy way to check is after you take it for a ride you should lightly touch each of the 3 brake rotors and they should be warm/hot depending on how you ride. If they are like stove top blazing hot, its time to clean out from under the brake seal. It's actually good maintenance to do so on such an old bike.
