Then fOaR sure you've made sure all gauges read the same by using Tees to tie them all together to the same source and verify'em. ( •_•)

But iffin' you gots them Tees/Lines you can use'em to do something else just as important as syncing the carbs...

Hook the lines up to the individual carb boots and then connect'em all together so there's only one "input" as shown above. (・‿・)

    And then.....

No air leaks at the intake boots or ANYWHERE 'cept the lower airbox. (◕‿◕)

Which is cuz I sorta forgot to tighten it down fully fOaR the video.... (>_<)

Good morning from an overcast and yes you have guessed it a damp UK

Sort of related to this, well nearly ;-)
The current set of carbs that are on the 11, do not have the vacuum advance connection. Instead as a work around I have connected it to the inlet boot number 2, with an adjustable damper. However, I get a flat spot at around 3000 revs, until I get my other set of carbs serviced and fitted, does anyone have any suggestions for a work around?

      Thanks

Check the advance assembly for a smooth movement. Anything old I usually clean and re-lube, checking for rust spots on the pins and weights, and cleaning them with a bit of crocus cloth. The other problem my be the carbs, as 3K is usually the switch from idle to just main jets. On the XS, the needle design helps with the transition.

Iffin' your are using the intake boot #2 and with an adjustable dampener? (O_o)

Then how the dampener is adjusted...how MUCH "damp" is impor'unt. ( •_•)

I gots the OG carbs (BS-34) with the vac advance connected to the port on #2 carb just like it's s'posed to be. ٩(^◡^)۶

BUT I kept on hearing the vac advance "chatter" at idle and below 1500 rpms. (。・_・。)

Imma thimkin' that ain't so good fOaR those fragile Pickup wires to be yoinking back and forth getting closer and closer to breaking. (•﹏•)

SOOooo....I installed an adjustable air flow valve (yup...same kind you'd use to adjust the air flow in a fish aquarium.) and adjusted it enuf so's at idle the vac advance wasn't boinking around. \(^_^)/

Noise wuz gone. Pickup wires saved. But the bike didn't have that "climb to rpm under throttle and then go into easy/economy mode" as the vac advance did wut it do. (Θ︹Θ)

I'd suggest checking the dampening by removing the engine side cover and seeing iffin' the vac advance is pulsing at idle. (;☉_☉)

If it ain't then there's too much "damp". Adjust so the "chatter" goes away above 1500 rpm and test ride it some mOaR. (^-^)

Might have to fuss wit' it some to get it to wurky right but when it do you'll feel it. (ʘ‿ʘ)

Still... might just be that the "current" carbs just ain't optimal... (*′☉.̫☉)

I have been using an aquarium fish tank damper, slowly adjusting it until it runs better.
I will try looking at the vacuum advance with the cover off and see if I can spot/hear anything. Thanks for the tip.

For those who are interested, yes it is raining again ;-)

                  Yah...... (。・・。)

The internet wuz and still is chock full of smokers fOaR sale and "DIY" smokers. (╯•﹏•╰)

My fave is one made outta soldering iron shoved into a pickle jar wi't socks soaked wit' baby/mineral oil. (^-^)

But the one I used in the Vidya? (O_o)

Something I made years ago with wut I had on hand when I needed to find a vacuum leak on my truck. (☉_☉)

Inside the "Water Bottle" is just a cigar with a plastic tip, shoved into some clear vinyl tubing, and connected to the "output". (☉_☉)

Air fitting on the water bottle bottom is intake port wit' yur finger acting as the "valve". ┐(´~`)┌

Here is what I use on my XS to sync the carbs. The plastic tank hangs from the IV pole, as do the gauges. Got it cheap through an auction site here in Idaho. If you notice in the second photo, I have a hand vacuum pump hooked to the gauges so I KNOW they all read the same.

Here's wut I use to generate the smoke needed to check the entire air intakes system on my XS fOaR leaks. (^_^)

Just a lot of old nylon hose sections and stuff I've found useful as adapters to hook "Der Raucher" (The Smoker....) to vehicles' vacuum/intake systems. (O_O)

Note- the hoses are yellow cuz they're like over 10 years old and that's wut happens to'em over time. NOT cuz they've been used to make smoke. (;☉_☉)

And....YES. The cigars fit inside too. A "bring-it-to-wheres-you-need-it-and-do-wut-it-do" setup. (^-^)

Makes MoAr sense when you see hows it gets used.... shown below.

The plastic cigar "holder" is held inside the section wit' holes and then that hose section is inserted into the larger hose wut gets connected to the water bottle "Lid". (∩`-´)⊃━☆゚.*・。゚

The extra holes mean extra air flows in along with the air that's from the soon-to-be-burning cigar. (・‿・)

This alows the "user" to adjust the smoke density by inserting the "holder" farther in or out of the next hose section (covering or uncovering holes...) ٩(^◡^)۶

When yur actuakly doin' the testing you shouldn't leave the intake horn/snout/wut ever open like shown above. (ノ_<、)

The smoke test needs a bit of back pressure/restriction so's the smoke seeks out and finds any unwanted leaks. (¬‿¬)

When I did testing I had the snout blocked off like THIS-

Just duct tape wit 5 pinhole poked innit. Seems to wurky fine fOaR me. (*^‿^*)

Note- even if I leave the snout open (no tape...) no smoke ever comes out cuz I gotta oiled uni-foam air filter.... amazing, right? (* _ *)

You can decide fOaR yourself whether or not to put tape over the vent hole in the bottom of the air box. (O_O)

You know... the hole where the gas from overflowing carbs is s'posed to leak out instead'a goin' in yur motor? (O_o)

That's a small aquarium air pump. Same one I use(d) to reverse fill my front brake system (^_^)

O'course you gotta have 120 Vac to use it which means yur likely inna garage or shop or sumpthin'. (⚆ᗝ⚆)
