  • base gasket leaking oil up through cylinder bolt

Has anyone tried Hylomar to stop this kind of leak?

Probabaly a silly questiom, bit you are sure it's not the valve cover? All of mine leak after some thermal cycles, then I have to tighten them 2,000 miles after I install them.

Once this starts leaking like this, it's like Whack a Mole, fix one leak and another pops up shortly after.

I did change the valve cover gasket and it looks dry.

This is the area that is prone to leaking, the smaller is the stud/bolt hole. See how close it is to the faulty O-ring.

And to add, there is an awful lot of oil being slung around in that cam chain tunnel right nearby. I think some kind of sealer would be a good idea around this area when reassembling, maybe an anerobic type so there is no rush fitting the pistons/rings back in.

I stopped a leak near my right knee when sitting on the bike. Oil was coming up from the crankcase along one of the long bolts that holds the head on. I squeezed some RTV Ultra Black around the bolt where it goes into the crankcase. It hasn't leaked for many years since that fix.

Yes. I want to try something like that.

To do it right, I would need to brake cleaner spray and brush around each bolt then caulk it with hylomar or permatex equivalent.

I heard Hylomar was used to stop fuel leaks on aircraft.

I just stuck my fingers around each bolt with the bike cold.

Only 2 are wet: front and back inside right. So that would be the one o-ring to the right of the chain.

Yep, or coming from the cam chain tunnel itself.

I just tried that. Thank you for the idea.
