You need to use the Vmax bolts (or equivalent) when you install the Vmax tensioner on the XS11 because the shoulder on the Vmax tensioner is not a thick:. Therefore you need the shorter Vmax bolts:

Yep, 20mm length bolts for the vmax unit, the OEM bolts are 25mm I believe.

Can anyone direct me to somewhere I can buy one for my '81 Special?
The leak I've been allowing for years ( a drop or two ) has grown into many drops now.
Thanks in advance for any advice, guys.

ACCT are easy to find on eBay, or you can fix the original OEM for a few dollars:

Got my V Max tensioner today in the mail-already removed the spring and pushed the part back ready to install. Do I really have to remove the cam cover like it is stated to make sure nothing is off?

Put the bike on the centerstand, rotate the crankshaft clockwise with a wrench and set the timing to the 'C' mark, remove the old tensioner and install the new one. No need to remove the valve cover, just make sure not to rotate the crankshaft any when the tensioner is out. After the new one is in, rotate the engine with the wrench slowly a few rotations clockwise to assure everything is smooth.

Very important that the bike is on the centerstand for this procedure, otherwise the chain may slip off the crankshaft teeth.

I dont have the centerstand but will get it level. Will the Yamaha gasket from the stock tensioner fit on the V Max tensioner? If not I have form a gasket sealant.

                            They are both Yamahas!

Yes, you can use either gasket. I used the XS11 gasket on my Vmax ACCT.

I have 2 new OEM gaskets and actually a new cam chain tensioner minus the spring and buffer at the end along with some OEM parts. The vaccuum advance cover is off and the V Max tensioner ready to go. I will do this on Father Day Sunday.
