ok so I decide to check my coil resistance and according to http://www.xs11.com/forum/showthread.php?t=583 I should have 1.5 oms on the primary side and I do. The secondary side (spark plug side) says I should have 15k oms. One coil has 25k oms the other is at 25m ohms. Could this be the issue or am I not doing it right.80 SG

The manual isn't terribly clear, the 15K value for the secondaries is with the plug caps OFF, just measuring bare wire to bare wire. The caps will probably have ~5k ohms ea, and so if they do, then it adds up....5+5+15=~25Kohms.

Now the weird thing. I decided to put the 105 mains in and the 45 pilots. My slide needles are set to the middle and my mixture screws are 1 and 1/4 turns out. Took the bike for a ride and runs with same issues. once I get to 4000 rpm it backfires like mad and doesn't go anymore. I reach down pull the choke to see if it helps and it does not. Put the choke back in and 2 seconds later I whack the throttle and the bitch climbs all the way up to 7000 rpm and does not hesitate for the rest of my ride. Turn off the bike have a coffee and its back to its old self again until I repeat the process with the choke. So tell me what causes that.80 SG

It sounds like the enricher circuit (choke) is dumping excessive fuel into the mix which you compensated for with smaller jets. When the enricher is opened and then closed. it temporarily closes off the additional fuel and allows for a leaner mixture. May want to take them apart and inspect.Last edited by bikerphil; 05-19-2017, 07:07 AM.2H7 (79) owned since '89

I wonder if when you were fiddling with the choke, you were momentarily off the throttle allowing the bowls to catch-up with gas. Have you tried running without the vacuum operated fuel controller? If not, try running on prime.
I have tried running in prime no change. Have not tried running with the vacuum line off the controller.80 SG

Resistance
is futile !
You have the resister plugs there and your running resister plug caps so you are doubling the resistance

It would seem to eliminate electrical issues from ignition. I just wonder of the levels in the bowls are still too low and with that boost of gas from the choke, the engine pulls enough air velocity to lift the main needles. I know I am not explaining this very well...80 SG
