    Almost There!

Thanks, Billy! Yeah, it was a totally sweet sound when it just fired up and ran! Handsprings would've been good but not while doing a video.

Some engine parts are still hot but I found the problem with the shifter.
The adjuster screw and nut were still locked with the bendy washer but the index was way off.
It's fixed now and shifts perfectly.

I pulled the Neutral switch and the tip that rides on the shift drum is chewed up.
With part of the tip missing it's too short and so close to being ON all the time that it turns on in gear positions that normally wouldn't trip the switch.

I have a few spare switches so I'll replace it.

The Oil level sensor is backward from what I thought it would be but it makes sense.
It couldn't work with the computer self-test/missing sensor routine if it was Open when there was oil.
Open means the oil level is low or the sensor is not working so there may be a broken wire somewhere that's making the computer light up.

I replaced the Neutral switch. The light works now so the old switch was bad.

The flashing light and Oil level warning stopped doing that.

      Huh.

Oh, well, time to go for a ride!

XJ1100 Carb Sync and Fuel Levels

The XJ's fuel levels are good, all within 1mm of the specs.
#1 is a little higher than the other three so I'll watch the spark plug to see if it has to be lowered.

Carburetor synchronizing was no problem but it wouldn't have worked without the YICS tool.

I filled up the gas tank and it got 33 mpg before it was synch'd. That's not bad, I haven't exactly been in fuel-sipping mode.

Yeah, it's one of the Internets' finest. It was less money than a Morgan or a Motion Pro set.
I didn't really want either one of them so I got fleec^H^H^H^H^Hprofessional gauges at a professional price.

They came in a really keen molded black plastic carrying case with a stylish piece of matching black retaining foam inside to keep them from rattling around.
It also has a sinister set of threaded chrome tubular type accessories with o-rings for almost any vacuum or synchronizing situation you can imagine and probably some you can't.

            Ah, found a seller:-

              Perfect Ride

I made a long, hot, ride down to Indio, splitting heavy Memorial Day traffic most of the way for four hours. I made it to the courthouse with five minutes to spare and... they couldn't find the papers I need so I'll go back on Tuesday.

I rode another hundred miles over the mountains to visit soccermike and Eagle Tom (also crash test dummy). My Baby ran perfectly, didn't use any oil so I'm tired but happy, kickin' back in Mike's kitchen and heading off to sleep.

More tomorrow when we put Mike's XJ back together!
