I'll chime in here. I highly recommend the stuff in a pressurized can called "The Right Stuff". It comes with an applicator tube, and you just press the tube to one side to dispense. Comes out in a nice, clean bead, with no mess. When I have had to remove the stuff, a wire brush cleans it off easily. I used a wire wheel on a drill to "grind" the OEM gasket material off years ago.

Though I disagree with C-bug on using a wire wheel on the aluminum gasket surface, I do agree with him on "The Right Stuff". A bit pricey, but has worked better than anything else I've tried.
Try your hardest to be the kind of person your dog thinks you are.

You can live to be 100, as long as you give up everything that would make you want to live to be 100!

+1 on The Right Stuff! (Best ever for every gasket on these bikes with the exception of the head gasket). Easily applied, removed, and superior sealing. I use nothing else.

          silicone..

silicone product are the handiest items but...

they must be applied with care!!!!

          small beads/light coat!

if you apply too much it can squeeze to the inside of the engine.

if it comes loose inside your motor it can clog oil ports and make a real nuisance of itself, ans could potentially do harm to the motor.

but again, apply lightly and it's a great product.

i prefer Pam cooking spray, buy 1 set of new gaskets and spray the "dry" gaskets down with pam so they release the next time the cover is removed.

          that also works great.

          2007 Suzuki V-Strom 1000. (Just added 2024) pre-crashed.

1975 Kawasaki S1 250. My first bike. Still have it. NO I'm not selling it!!

Most bike problems are caused by a loose nut connecting the handlebars and the seat!!
